The Cowboys could be making a MAJOR change to their offensive line this offseason!

Mauricio Rodriguez discusses the possibility of the Dallas Cowboys making changes along the offensive line.

00:00So it looks like the Dallas Cowboys are exploring a high risk but high reward gamble only a couple

00:06of weeks into OTAs. Hey, what's up everyone? It's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas.

00:15Today we are talking Cowboys OTAs. It is now the third week of OTAs. In one week,

00:22we'll have Cowboys minicamp underway, but we're already learning a lot about what this team is

00:27exploring, what this team is experimenting with, and one of those things could be a huge change

00:33to the offensive line. Now, I do want to start this off by adding this disclaimer. I think the

00:40likeliest outcome for the Cowboys offensive line in 2025 is for it to stay almost exactly the same

00:47as last year with the exception of the right guard spot. Zach Martin obviously retired. The Cowboys

00:54drafted Tyler Booker in the first round so you would get him in that right guard slot. However,

01:00it doesn't seem like they're ruling out shaking things up. And I say that because of what Brian

01:06Schuttenheimer himself said in a press conference when he told the media, we are creating competition.

01:13Booker is not taking all of the reps with the ones. We are rolling with different guys in there.

01:18Rob Jones. We're moving Brock Hoffman. We're moving Cooper Beebe around some. That is a massive

01:25comment. Firstly, obviously something that stands out is that although reports early on indicated that

01:31Booker was working with the starters, they are rotating him around with some other players.

01:37So if we thought that, hey, Booker is the immediate starter and no one is going to question that,

01:43that might still be true, but they are asking him to earn it just a little bit at least.

01:47But what really catches my attention is the fact that they are playing Beebe at guard at least a

01:53little bit. Quick reminder on Beebe's career. When he was in college over at Kansas State,

01:59he played guard. He played some tackle. He played on the left side of the line. He played on the right

02:03side of the line. The one thing he didn't do in college was play center, which was immediately what

02:09the Cowboys asked him to do. So there he was taking snaps from his mother during the offseason.

02:14Literally, that happened. And he did end up starting for the Cowboys at center for the entire

02:20season. But there's always a question with the Cowboys offensive line about, hey, what if they

02:25move Tyler Smith to tackle if they don't like what they see in Tyler Guyton's development in the second

02:31year? And that question has always existed with Tyler Smith in some way, shape or form because he

02:36played tackle during his rookie season. Well, if the Cowboys did that, then you would get that open

02:41guard slot where it would make sense to consider Cooper Beebe there and then just pair him with

02:47Tyler Booker. And then you do happen to have a center in Brock Hoffman, who could be a very adequate

02:54starter. To add to the intrigue of all of this, the Cowboys hired Connor Riley as their offensive line

03:00coach. And keep in mind, Riley worked with Beebe when he was at Kansas State, and he knows what Beebe

03:06can do if he plays at guard. You could even argue that some of the best skills that Beebe has

03:12are best displayed if he plays guard and not center. Why? Because when he pulls into open space,

03:19he can bury defenders. He can get out in open space and just use his power to lead the way and pave a

03:26path for running backs. And while it's true he can do that from center, you're just going to ask your

03:31center to pull way less often because he also has to snap the football, and it's just a much more

03:36complicated task. What I will say, however, is that there's high risk if you do this just because

03:42you're going to move things around, right? You're going to have Tyler Smith playing a different

03:45position. The same with Cooper Beebe. You're going to have Brock Hoffman going from guard to center

03:49again, and that's a little bit too much change, right? But I'll tell you where the high reward

03:54potentially lies. You could have an upgrade at tackle if Tyler Smith performs well if he replaces

04:00Guyton. You could have Beebe playing at his best position, which would be guard in my view. And if

04:06you're looking for the best combination of five offensive linemen, you could definitely argue that

04:12this would be it. Now, again, I think the Cowboys won't want to change things as much, but it is on

04:19the table. Brian Schottenheimer himself is saying it, and that is something to watch out for throughout
