Watch the explosive moments from the 2025 NYC mayoral debate as Zohran Mamdani faces tough questions on live TV. From denying support for legalizing prostitution despite past statements, to confusing positions on public schools, policing, parades, and city climate policies, Mamdani’s performance left New Yorkers questioning his credibility and vision. Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa also clashed with Mamdani, making this debate a must-watch for voters ahead of the critical election.

00:00As a sponsor to decriminalize prostitution.
00:05The difference between myself and Andrew Cuomo, of which there are many, is that there is no
00:09one that is actually telling me what to do other than the eight and a half million people
00:13who call this city home.
00:14If you want my policies, you'll find them on my website.
00:16Who told you to legalize prostitution?
00:18On the quality of life issues, the worst thing that could happen is if the assemblyman's
00:24proposal for legalizing prostitution went through, that would be terrible for the quality
00:29of life.
00:30He also doesn't want to enforce misdemeanors, that's assault, larceny, etc.
00:35That would be terrible.
00:36We're going to have time to address that.
00:37I want to be very clear.
00:38Not only have I never called for the legalization of prostitution, I'm not calling for that today
00:42either.
00:43And I also have never said anything about not enforcing misdemeanors.
00:46This is just yet another figment of Andrew Cuomo's imagination.
00:50The DSA, which you give part of your salary to, that's their position, abolish jails, no
00:56new carceral facilities, don't enforce misdemeanors.
00:59And you're on the bill in Albany as a sponsor to decriminalize prostitution.
01:06The difference between myself and Andrew Cuomo, of which there are many, is that there is
01:10no one that is actually telling me what to do other than the eight and a half million
01:14people who call this city home.
01:15Who told you?
01:16If you want my policies, you'll find them on my website.
01:18Who told you to legalize prostitution?
01:19Okay.
01:20Wait, wait, wait.
01:21We actually have a question.
01:22Andrew, you can't escape this.
01:23You signed the law doing away with loitering for prostitution.
01:27That was the law put forward by Jessica Ramos.
01:30Gentlemen, since you started the prostitution in East Elmer and Jackson Heights and Flushing.
01:37And you want to add to it, which diminishes the quality of life.
01:42Mr. Sliwa, when I talk over you, nobody's hearing you.
01:44And we actually have a question on that.
01:46So we'll let Rosarita ask.
01:47And for this question, candidates, we want to come to Queens, where we know that prostitution
01:51has been an ongoing complaint.
01:54Mayor Adams force form a task force and order sweeps by the NYPD.
01:59But the situation continues, especially around the very popular Roosevelt Avenue.
02:05As mayor, Mr. Mandani, how would you handle this situation?
02:08You have 30 seconds.
02:10I want to first be clear that I am not and nor have I ever called for the legalization
02:15of prostitution.
02:16And if you are happy with what's happening on Roosevelt Avenue, then you should vote for
02:19Andrew Cuomo because his policy is to continue the exact same ones we've seen under Eric
02:24Adams.
02:25My policy is to actually take on sex trafficking, to have a zero tolerance for violence against
02:30women and to follow the advice of district attorneys that we have here in New York City,
02:34the current Manhattan D.A., the former Manhattan D.A., the current Brooklyn D.A.
02:38The former Manhattan D.A. having said that prosecuting women for prostitution is something
02:43that actually leads to less safety.
02:45And what we need to do is provide an economy of opportunity.
02:47Mr. Mandani, just a quick clarification.
02:50So no legalization about decriminalization.
02:55I do not think that we should be prosecuting women who are struggling, who are currently
02:59being thrown in jail and then being offered job opportunities.
03:03I think we should be actually providing those kinds of opportunities at the first point of
03:06interaction.
03:07Mr. Cuomo, your turn.
03:08Yeah.
03:09Yeah.
03:10Look, Bill de Blasio, the assemblyman is a mini me BDB.
03:15OK, he's Bill de Blasio light.
03:18He proposed the legalizing prostitution.
03:21He didn't get it.
03:22And he just told the cops, don't arrest any more prostitutes.
03:25There is a bill in Albany that he signed that says the prostitution that a woman who is
03:33a prostitute, that would be decriminalized.
03:37That is what the bill says.
03:39And that's what he said.
03:40If you listen very carefully, that would take Roosevelt Avenue and explode it because it
03:46would make it legal for prostitutes.
03:49Real quick.
03:50How would you handle this situation?
03:51You have to enforce the law.
03:52It's illegal.
03:53I went to Roosevelt Avenue.
03:54I talked to the store owners.
03:55I talked to the neighbors.
03:56I walked down Roosevelt Avenue.
03:59I have to move on to Mr. Siwa.
04:00We have to move on.
04:01It's their 9 o'clock in the morning.
04:02Your turn, Mr. Siwa.
