  • Missed keeping up on the news? Here’s a quick catch-up of the top stories from this week. 🧑🎓After a pause under the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) program, the U.S. Department of Education is resuming student loan forgiveness for borrowers enrolled in Income-Based Repayment (IBR) plans. This change means many borrowers may soon experience new cash flow, either through reduced loan payments or no payments at all. But without revising your budget, this new financial flexibility can turn into dollars that slip away through discretionary spending. This is where budgeting tools can help you effectively manage your finances. 💳Recent data from Experian shows credit reliance is becoming more widespread across age brackets. Generation-Z carries an average balance of $3,493; Millennials hold $6,961 and Generation-X carries the most at $9,600. Average balances then dip to $6,795 for Baby Boomers and $3,445 for the Silent Generation. Moreover, balances have risen faster for Gen-Z and Millennials than for older generations. Choosing a balance transfer credit card with an intro APR may offer an efficient way to reduce debt. 💸Recent U.S. Census Bureau data reveals that for the first time in over 60 years, the gender pay gap has increased for two consecutive years. Full-time working women earned under 81 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earned in 2024—down from 83 cents in 2023 and 84 cents in 2022. Moreover, when it comes to financial challenges for small businesses, 40% of women-owned businesses were operating at a loss at the end of 2023, versus 33% of men-owned businesses, the Federal Reserve’s 2025 Firms in Focus report shows. Small business grants for women can help you access cash for your business venture and help you stay afloat if needed—without having to repay the funds.
