Alex Leong's KubeCon London talk, "Museum of Weird Bugs: Our Favorites From 8 Years of Service Mesh Debugging," got some incredible feedback. Some people even said it was the best talk they attended in London! 🐛 💻 🐞 Over the past 8 years we've fixed a lot of bugs in Linkerd. Many of these were straightforward, but some of them manifested in strange ways, or only showed up in unique situations, or otherwise surprised us. Some of them were just plain funny. In this talk Alex Leong runs through a couple of our favorites: the most interesting, weird, and memorable bugs we've found and fixed in Linkerd. She describes how they originally manifested (usually in someone else's production system), how we went about tackling them (often by educating the reporter on how to construct a useful bug report), and the sometimes long and windy path to finally fixing them. Linkerd Ambassador Chris Campbell just published part 2 of his "Building Your Infrastructure with Tilt, Linkerd, and Nginx" blog post series! In part one, he built a simple microservices demo with Linkerd on a local Kubernetes cluster using Tilt. In this blog post, he extends the demo to support gRPC communication and explores some of Linkerd’s helpful features for managing gRPC services. 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐍𝐂𝐅 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐢 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐩 It was an honor to share my experience with the community on how to get started with Linkerd, the ultra-lightweight and secure service mesh purpose-built for Kubernetes. I presented “𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐝: 𝐀 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬” In this talk, I introduced the power of Linkerd as a lightweight service mesh designed for Kubernetes focusing on how it simplifies secure service-to-service communication and observability. 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤, 𝐈 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝: ✅ What is a service mesh and where Linkerd fits in ✅ Linkerd’s core features: simplicity, mTLS security, zero-config setup ✅ Architecture overview and installation prerequisites. It was a joy engaging with learners, answering great questions, and diving into hands-on concepts with the passionate CNCF Madurai community. 🙏 Big thanks to the organizers Selvam R and Veerasolaiyappan V for the opportunity and to all the attendees for the warm participation. 🌐 Shoutout to Buoyant and the Linkerd team for building a truly developer-friendly and production-grade service mesh. Can a service mesh save you money? It's one thing to say "Linkerd is simpler than Istio". It's another thing to say, "Linkerd will cut 40% of your AWS data transfer costs." Love this report by Blake R. on how Imagine Learning has improved reliability and security, reduced operational overhead, and cut costs by using Linkerd! https://lnkd.in/dEuM72yr #servicemesh #linkerd #istio

At Imagine Learning, we have achieved remarkable results by integrating Linkerd into our Cloud-Native Internal Developer Platform. As detailed in this recent CNCF blog post, we explore our journey with Linkerd and how it has not only enhanced our operational efficiency but also significantly reduced networking costs by 40%. We leveraged Amazon Web Services (AWS) EKS and the robust support from Buoyant to build a reliable infrastructure. By adopting Linkerd, we managed to cut down networking expenses substantially, freeing up resources for other critical areas. As Imagine Learning continues to grow, the flexibility and scalability offered by Linkerd ensure we can meet the demands of millions of students daily. Linkerd’s industry-standard mTLS ensures secure communication between workloads. The microproxy mediates all communications, maintaining long-lived connections and reducing TLS handshake overhead. Enhanced monitoring and observability features help in managing and troubleshooting the network effectively. At Imagine Learning, we are dedicated to providing the best educational experiences. By embracing cutting-edge technologies like Linkerd, we ensure that our platform remains robust, secure, and cost-effective.
