Should the value of authoritative content be protected when used to train LLMs? As SEO professionals, we understand the importance of creating high-quality content, and we've all seen the dynamic shift in a zero-click world. So is the unauthorized use of content to train large language models sustainable? 💡 Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah (Moz's parent company) joins Peter Kafka on the Channels podcast to discuss why Ziff Davis has joined The New York Times in suing OpenAI. This is a fight for the integrity of content creation, a key pillar of Moz's brand and business model. The core of this discussion is the critical battle for Intellectual Property and fair compensation for publishers. Could this, in the future, translate into a new revenue stream through licensing agreements? Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, or your preferred podcast platform.
Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah joined the "Channels" podcast with Business Insider's Peter Kafka on the future of media in the age of AI, discussing the company’s lawsuit against OpenAI, the industry’s response to AI, and the resilience of Ziff Davis’ portfolio. Key takeaways: On the OpenAI lawsuit: "Our content's been stolen. We tried in good faith to strike a commercial agreement. OpenAI rebuffed our overtures, and so we were left with really the only choice, which was to protect our rights and defend our IP." On digital publishers: "I'm pretty proud of publishers because they're actually taking action. I think in the past, we've kind of sometimes sat on the sidelines to see how the game is going to play out. That isn't what's happening right now." On Ziff Davis' portfolio: "The reason we can weather moments like this well is because we're diversified. So I'm a full believer in our model.” Listen on the platforms below: Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eeNvC_AZ Spotify: https://lnkd.in/euuZmPGE

Do you think you have to have all the answers to be an effective mentor? Think again. The goal of a mentorship isn't to solve the problem—it's to equip your mentee to believe in their own solutions. Miracle Inameti-Archibong breaks down the core qualities needed for this mindset on Whiteboard Friday: Listening: This means holding your self-expression in check and testing your understanding, not just waiting to respond. Self-Awareness: Acknowledge your biases and blind spots so you don't collude with your mentee's existing beliefs. Objectivity: Support with objectivity—don't be afraid to challenge their assumptions. If you're ready to improve your coaching and mentoring skills, this is the framework you need. Watch now on the Moz Blog https://mz.cm/4nEpcuK

Want to identify internal links at scale? We've got you! Stop manual audits and use math to find what you're missing. This article by Everett Sizemore uses vector embeddings and the OpenAI API alongside Screaming Frog to identify and implement highly relevant internal linking opportunities at scale. This turns a complex concept into a repeatable workflow that uses tools you already own. The Measurable Result: You will uncover links that human auditors miss, ensuring every link: ➡️ Is mathematically proven for relevance (cosine similarity). ➡️ Disambiguates closely related concepts. ➡️ Directly strengthens the pages you want to rank. We break down the exact steps—from Screaming Frog setup to processing the vector data. You'll finish with a sheet that shows the top-most related pages for every key URL on your site, flagging the ones that don't currently link back. Save hours of manual work with this step-by-step process: https://mz.cm/48ajhbY

Did you see the rulings on the Google antitrust case? 👀 After a five-year battle, the final decision is in, and it will reshape the search industry. Moz's Principle Innovation Architect, Dr. Pete Meyers, breaks down the ruling, what Google did (and didn't) have to give up. It also raised the curtain on some of Google’s inner workings. Here is a direct quote from the court documents: “Google receives nine times more queries each day than its rivals combined, and 19 times more on mobile. The volume of click-and-query data that Google acquires in 13 months would take Microsoft 17.5 years.” Here's a quick breakdown of what happened: 🔷The court rejected the most severe remedies, meaning Google gets to keep Chrome and Android. It also can still pay for default search placement. 🔷Google is now barred from exclusive contracts and must share some of its valuable search data with competitors. While Google won more battles than it lost, the penalties are substantial. What do you think, was Google let off lightly? Swipe through to learn more

Yes, we know! Google is cannibalizing many "what," "why," and "how" queries. That's why you're seeing a massive downturn in your informational organic traffic. But the good news is you can inject it with personal perspective. The Skyscraper Technique, which once worked well by adding more and more subsections to a piece of content, is now giving way to a new reality. So, what's the solution? Bernard Huang from Clearscope shares his perspective in this Whiteboard Friday. The answer isn't to create more content but to repackage what you already have by infusing it with unique, firsthand perspectives that a user is likely to care about. Instead of generic "how-to" articles, focus on "how I did this" to drive more trust and engagement. We have already created the content, and it's a matter of repackaging what we've already created ♻️ 📦 Many thanks to our guest host Bernard Huang! On Saturday I attended my second MeasureCamp London - and my first one submitting an impromptu session! 💻 As usual, it was packed with insights and it was a great opportunity to learn and meeting new people. In particular, I appreciated hearing Tom Capper's thoughts about the n=100 parameter change, Enrico Pavan's case study on data automation for predictive insights and Ludvig Alm's approach to creative testing at scale. Thanks Keely Jacob, Anna Lewis and 🔎 Charles Meaden for organising another memorable one! 👏 -- If you were in my session and found it useful (or if you weren't there and are curious about behavioural data + SEO), I've added some links in the comments: 📝 My unfiltered thoughts on using data to improve UX (even when you don't work in UX) 👩🏻🏫 My Whiteboard Friday on Behavioural Data for Search with Moz 🧠 The link to my training at #brightonSEO next month, where you can learn all about how users make decisions, how to measure their behaviour and merge it all in a cohesive strategy. #MeasureCampLondon

It's time for another popular Whiteboard Friday with our guest host Giulia Panozzo ! Neuroscientist-turned-marketer, Giulia, breaks down a powerful, data-driven framework for mastering SXO in this Whiteboard Friday. Learn her three-step process to treat performance issues: 1️⃣ Analyze Symptoms: Start with basic diagnostic tools like Google Search Console (GSC) and social mentions to identify problems like low traffic or high abandonment. 2️⃣ Diagnose Root Cause: Move to next-level data (web analytics, heatmaps) to understand why the symptoms are occurring. 3️⃣ Prioritize Fixes: Use a prioritization matrix to weigh the effort and impact of potential solutions, ensuring you tackle the most impactful fixes first. This is how modern SEOs go beyond rankings to deliver a complete, positive user experience. https://mz.cm/3W8snys
