    🚨🚨🚨 We’re entering a threshold moment in e-commerce and many aren’t yet acknowledging it. This week, Google has announced Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), an open standard that effectively says: “AI agents will soon be transacting on your behalf, with your permission, and this time we want it secure, auditable, and interoperable.” Think about that: no more “you click buy” as the only safe model. Agents will operate under Mandates (what you want), Verifiable Credentials (proof of who you are & what you allowed), and Cart Mandates (exactly what you’re paying for). It’s not sci-fi anymore, good people! This is protocol-level infrastructure. (spoiler - most leading players in ecom tech space are actively testing and exploring prototypes with AP2 today) For anyone in e-commerce: if you’re still optimizing checkout flow or A/B testing cart abandonment without asking “how will agents bypass this?”, you’re already behind. Because AP2 will not just aim to make buying easier, it aims to rewire who/what is buying, when 😮humans aren’t even there😮!!! The stakes, in my opinion: -> Trust & fraud risk explode if this is handled poorly (and for sure, we will see massive fails and fraud cases to be fought against very shortly) -> Brands / merchants who embrace this early get huge upside: capturing high-intent sales that would be lost, automating “always-on” deals, bundling, delegated commerce. -> Everyone else will play catch up (and catching up in payments is expensive, as we all know : ) -> I’m bullish: this is one of the biggest inflection points in commerce tech in the last decade. Protocols like AP2 aren’t just another “feature”; they’re foundations. If your roadmap doesn’t include agentic commerce, you’re gonna be left behind, my friends.
