🚨 New Study: AI Writing Hasn’t Taken Over the Web (Yet) A new analysis from Graphite featured in Axios, reveals that while AI-generated content has grown rapidly since 2023, human-created writing still dominates the web. 💡 The winning strategy isn’t to avoid AI, but to use it responsibly. Here’s what the data shows: - Between 2020–2025, Graphite analyzed 65,000 URLs using Surfer’s AI detection technology. - AI-generated articles briefly overtook human-written ones in late 2024, but today they’re roughly equal. - Despite the surge in AI content, 86% of articles ranking in Google Search are still human-written. Similarly, 82% of articles cited by AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity were human-authored. As AI becomes more collaborative than competitive, impact comes when we focus on enhancing human creativity rather than replacing it completely. The smartest creators are using AI to amplify expertise, efficiency, and creativity. This data reinforces what we’ve long believed: Great content has a human touch. Our data scientist Maciej Gruszczyński has a knack for digging into what actually makes pages shine in both LLMs and traditional search. His latest finding? Pages with clear, well-framed introductions are far more likely to get cited in AI Overviews. From our analysis: 🚀 73% of cited pages opened with a strong intro 😬 Only 51% of ignored pages did 👉 That’s about 43% more often. It seems LLMs—just like people—use the introduction to decide whether the page is worth exploring. 💡 Takeaway: If you want to win in AI Overviews, don’t just rush to answer the main question. ➡️ First, frame the topic. ➡️ Set the context. ➡️ Show the reader (and the model) why your page is worth exploring. ✨ This is just one of many insights we’ll be sharing as we continue to explore what it takes to rank in AI and traditional search.
