The job search can feel endless with no conclusion in sight. But there are ways to feel more in control of this unruly process. You can build systems, you can build processes, and you can build in breaks and times for rest into your process . Thought this would make for a good Saturday post as we refresh over the weekend and gear up for a new week ahead. Tips below on how to tune up your job search.

200 applications. 12 rejections. 188 ghosts. 😔 And someone just told you to 'stay positive.' I'm not going to do that: Job search burnout is real.  And it's not your fault. The system has challenges: → Application processes that feel like black holes → Job postings that mysteriously disappear → Radio silence after multiple interviews → Template rejections after hours of customization This isn't a 'mindset' problem.  It's a structural reality. But you can navigate it without losing yourself. Here's what actually helps: 1️⃣ SET FIRM BOUNDARIES • Job search 2-3 hours/day MAX • No applications after 6pm • Weekends are sacred—take them OFF • Your mental health matters more than any job 2️⃣ MEASURE WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL ✅ Goal: '10 tailored applications this week' ❌ Not: 'Get 5 interviews this week' You control effort, not outcomes. Focus there. 3️⃣ BUILD IN RECOVERY TIME • One full day/week away from job boards • Do something that reminds you of your worth • Exercise, create, connect—anything but LinkedIn • Remember: You're more than your job search 4️⃣ FIND YOUR PEOPLE • Connect with others in the trenches • Join job search support groups • Share the real struggles, not just wins • You need people who truly get it 5️⃣ PROTECT YOUR ENERGY • Unfollow 'I got 10 offers!' posts if they hurt • Mute unhelpful advice-givers • Create a job search routine that serves YOU • Take breaks without guilt Here's the truth: You're not failing.  You're persisting through a difficult system. Every application sent while exhausted is an act of courage. Every day you keep going is a victory. Every boundary you set is self-respect. The game might feel rigged, but you're still playing it smarter than you think. Your worth isn't measured by response rates. Your value doesn't decrease with each ghost. Your next opportunity is still out there. Take care of yourself first. The right job will follow. “It's not over till it's over.” “Don't stop.” “Don't take your foot off the gas.” All of these sayings have an origin in that things truly aren't complete until you have total certainty. And even then, you don't. It may feel exhausting. You may feel like you're making progress and you can stop. But the truth is it's really not over until it's over. And until you start your first day of work, can you guarantee that you have that job? This advice comes from a place of caring. Keep going. You're not being disloyal. You're not being inauthentic. You're looking out for yourself and your best interests, which is going to enable you to take care of others and those you care about. Keep at it. You got this. Good luck.

🚨 Your job search isn't over when you get an offer. It's not even over on your first day. Here's why: I'll be honest—it's tempting to stop applying once you get that verbal offer. 🎉 But here's what 15+ years in the career space taught me: Nothing is final until you're sitting at your new desk. (And even then, I'd argue you should keep networking for 90 days.) Here's why you MUST keep your search active: 1️⃣ Offers fall through • Budget freezes happen • Leadership changes direction • 'Sure things' become 'sorry, but...' I've seen it countless times. 2️⃣ Leverage creates better outcomes Multiple offers = negotiating power. One offer = take it or leave it. Which position would you rather be in? 3️⃣ The job might not be what you expected • Culture mismatch • Role scope changes • Manager switches 40% of people regret taking a job within 6 months. 4️⃣ You ARE a business of one Companies interview multiple candidates. They keep backups. Why shouldn't you? 🤷♂️ 💡 The uncomfortable truth: You don't owe loyalty to a company that hasn't hired you yet. Hell, you don't owe blind loyalty to one that has. ✅ What to do instead: • Keep applying until day 1 • Maintain momentum—5 applications/week minimum • Take those networking calls • Update your pipeline weekly • Don't ghost other opportunities 📊 My 90-day rule: • Days 1-30: Keep networking, pause applications • Days 31-60: Evaluate fit, keep options warm • Days 61-90: Decide if you're staying or reactivating search Always have a Plan B. 🎯 Remember: Companies keep candidates on the back burner. (We all know they do.) You can do the same. The best time to find a job? When you don't need one. Keep moving until the ink is dry. Keep networking even after. Your career is a marathon, not a sprint. Act accordingly. 💪 Track multiple opportunities seamlessly with Teal's Job Tracker → https://lnkd.in/gJSNk4FN #JobSearch #CareerAdvice #JobSearchStrategy #Negotiation #CareerTips #JobHunting #Networking #CareerGrowth 👍 To let me know you want more content like this. ♻️ Reshare to protect someone's job search momentum. 🔔 Follow me for more job search & resume tips.

We like to think of resumes having 3 parts: the hook, substance, and appendix. If you're focused on the appendix (which is often the easiest information to add because they're more like facts), you've missed out on the two most important parts: the hook and the substance. The substance takes more effort - it's writing those resume bullets, adding in those metrics, using that right language that convinces and compels the reader. The appendix and the backup are what help solidify their decision. Here are some tips on how to think about structuring and writing your resume

📜 That certification collection isn't  why you'll get hired. Here's what actually matters: Think of your resume like a book. Your work experience?  That's the main story. Certifications, courses, volunteering?  That's the appendix. Too many job seekers flip this backwards.  They lead with their PMP certification or latest Coursera course, hoping it'll open doors. But here's the truth:  Recruiters scan for proven abilities first. They want to see you've actually DONE the work, not just studied it. Here's how to structure your resume for impact: 1️⃣ Lead with relevant work experience Show achievements and results that match the job requirements. Use metrics when possible. 2️⃣ Align your education strategically If it directly relates to the role, feature it. Otherwise, keep it brief. 3️⃣ Treat certifications as supporting evidence They validate your experience, they don't replace it. 4️⃣ Add projects and volunteering last These round out your story but shouldn't be the headline. 5️⃣ Always map back to the job description Every line should answer: 'Can this person do THIS job?' Remember: A certification shows you can learn. Work experience shows you can deliver. Recruiters are hiring for results, not potential. So yes, include those certifications. But make sure they're supporting a strong foundation of proven work experience. Your appendix can't save a weak story. But a strong story with good supporting docs? That's a winning resume. Build a resume that leads with your proven abilities. I started a new job last month after being laid off in this crazy market 🎉 I even made a pivot to a new field I’m truly passionate about. And to be honest, it was HARD & there were moments I wanted to quit, but I reminded myself: 💡 My skills are valuable. 💡 My experience is transferable. 💡 Giving up wasn’t an option. While I don’t have the magic formula to landing your next role, I want to share some tips that helped me through this rough patch that may help you too! ✅Build a resume that tells your story, making sure to sell your relevant experience. I used Teal’s AI Resume Builder to highlight my impact & keywords in each bullet point & took advantage of the project/volunteer section to show the work I did in the community. ✅Network with purpose! Searched through your connections to find a recruiter/hiring manager & followed up on each application with a customized message, highlighting the value you bring to the role & company. The Teal Job Tracker helped me stay organized with reach outs & follow-up reminders as well. ✅Get prepared! I know you’re tired of repeating it, but practice your elevator pitch as it relates to the role & prepared examples of work scenarios to the common interview questions in your field. The interview tracker in Teal helped me keep track of who I’m interviewing with and when for each role, so I was always on top of my game. Yes this market is tough & yes you might cry but you WILL land another role that you’ll be proud of. Keep pushing & everything will fall into place. I’m rooting for you! It's really about keeping it simple. A resume is not a time to flex and demonstrate your visual abilities. It's about showing clarity over cleverness and making it really easy for the reader to find the most important information. Here are some tips below on how to do that:

Your resume formatting is sabotaging you. 📄 Here's what actually matters (and what doesn't): Bad formatting can kill your chances before anyone reads a single word. Here's my proven formatting framework that works every time: 1️⃣ FONT CHOICES THAT WIN ✅ Use: Calibri, Arial, Garamond, or Georgia ❌ Avoid: Times New Roman (outdated), Comic Sans (never), decorative fonts → Why?  Clean, modern fonts show attention to current standards 2️⃣ SIZE MATTERS • Your name: 14-16pt (make it memorable) • Section headers: 12-14pt (clear hierarchy) • Body text: 10-12pt (easy to scan) • Never go below 10pt—if you need more space, cut content instead 3️⃣ MARGINS & WHITE SPACE • Sweet spot: 0.5' to 1' on all sides • More white space = easier to read • A crowded resume is an unread resume • Pro tip: If you're cramming, you have too much content 4️⃣ LAYOUT RULES THAT WORK • Single column only (no exceptions) • Clear, bold section headers • Consistent bullet points throughout • No tables, text boxes, or graphics • No headers or footers with contact info 5️⃣ THE COPY-PASTE TEST 🎯 Here's my golden rule: If you can't cleanly select and copy your text into a plain document, neither can an ATS. Test it yourself: → Save as PDF → Open and select all text → Paste into a basic text editor → If it's jumbled, fix your formatting Remember: You're not designing a brochure. You're creating a professional document that needs to work across multiple systems. The goal? Make it so easy to read that hiring managers can't help but focus on your achievements, not your font choice. Format your resume perfectly with Teal's ATS-friendly templates → https://lnkd.in/eGbtuACr #ResumeTips #JobSearch #CareerAdvice #ResumeFormatting #ATSResume #JobHunt #ResumeWriting #CareerDevelopment #JobSeekers #ResumeBuilder 👍 To let me know you want more content like this. ♻️ Reshare to help someone fix their resume formatting. 🔔 Follow me for more job search & resume tips.
