Control whether LinkedIn uses your data to improve generative AI (GAI) models that are used for content creation on LinkedIn

Last updated: 1 month ago

LinkedIn deploys generative artificial intelligence (GAI) models for a variety of purposes. For example, LinkedIn uses generative artificial intelligence GAI models to help make our services secure and more compliant with our Professional Community Policies. LinkedIn also uses GAI models for content creation that are different from our safety and security GAI models and include, for example, LinkedIn’s AI-powered writing assistant that enables message drafting using generative AI functionalities.

In cases where LinkedIn or its affiliates train or improve generative AI models used to create content, members can use the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting to control whether their data is used for training these models.

Please note:

  • The Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting is set to “on” by default, unless you opt-out by turning it “off.” Turning the setting off means that we (LinkedIn and our affiliates) won’t use the data and content you provided to LinkedIn to train models that generate content going forward. Opting out does not affect training that has already taken place.
  • The Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting controls the use of data for training content generating AI models conducted by LinkedIn and its affiliates.
  • The Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting applies to training and improving generative AI models that are used to generate content (e.g., suggested posts or messages) and does not apply to our training of AI models used for other purposes, such as models used to personalize your LinkedIn experience or models we use for security, safety, or anti-abuse purposes.
  • If you opt-out of the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting, you may still use our generative AI features that generate content, but your personal data will not be used to train or improve any content generating AI models. In other words, this setting does not control the use of your data while you or others are using generative AI features on LinkedIn. It only controls the use of your data for training the models that may power those features.
  • Even if you have opted-out of the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting, if you choose to provide feedback to us, we may still use information you include in your feedback (e.g. thumbs up or down, or text you include in your feedback) to train our content generating AI models. Please be thoughtful about the information that you share in your feedback, and do not share anything you would not want our GAI models to use for our GAI model training.
  • If we have reason to believe that you could be under 18 - for example, if you are currently in secondary school or its local equivalent (e.g., gymnasium or high school) - your data will not be used to train content generating AI models, even if your setting appears turned on.
  • For members in the Designated Countries (EEA and Switzerland) and UK, we’ll be making an update to our European Regional Privacy Notice to address LinkedIn’s use of data from November 3, 2025 to include information about how we use and share your data for content generating AI model training and the choices you have to opt out. Additionally, if you are in the Designated Countries your personal information will not be made available to certain LinkedIn affiliates (such as Microsoft) for training generative AI models without further notice.
