"iPhone Mirroring Timed Out Connecting" after IOS26 update

I updated my iPhone 16 Pro Max to IOS 26.0 and mirroring stopped working on my MacBook M1. I figured that maybe there was an issue in not having upgraded to Tahoe yet, so I did the install. No joy. It still does not connect, but I know they are talking because I get a notification on my phone that it had connected to my MacBook.

I've restarted both devices, checked that the Bluetooth is on and both are on the same Wi-Fi network. I went to System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff and make sure AirPlay Receiver is turned on.

Still get the "iPhone Mirroring timed out connecting."

It's a feature I use every day, in fact, it's one of the reasons I upgraded to the iPhone 16 from an older model that didn't have the capability.

Any ideas?

I phoned Apple Support twice today. The first person I spoke to said she was unaware of this issue. She made me jump through hoops, including wasting an hour reinstalling 26.0. The second person checked and found that as of today this is a known issue that Apple is working. Many people have reported this problem. We will likely have to wait for 26.1 for a fix.

Probably the answer is yes, but are you signed into the same Apple Account on both devices?

Here are some additional suggestions from Apple (kbase article link)

For what it's worth, I have not updated my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 26 but mirroring works fine on the M4 MacBook Pro that I upgraded to macOS 26 Tahoe (and still works on the M1 MacBook Pro that remains on Sequoia).

Just setup my new iPhone 17 yesterday. It has iOS 26.0.1 and I get mirror ended due to iPhone use, timed out connecting, and if it does connect, clicking on anything nothing happens and I get connection interrupted.

When I use my phone there are a load of mirroring use notifications queued up, which appear one after another.

My Macbook Pro is on Sequoia.

I upgraded from an iPhone XS, which always worked!

Mine does not work either. I agree that it is 100% an OS issue, as some others have commented. I've tried every step in this thread, as well as verifying that networking traffic is not being blocked, routing and DNS are working correctly, and both devices are up to date. Please fix this, Apple!

I never experienced any issues on the previous OS; it always worked, and now it doesn't work consistently.

You know what’s really impressive? That ‘connection failed’ screen shows up faster than the iPhone Mirroring app can even crash on a duck. It’s instant—bam, right there. That’s how unprofessional this is. I mean, come on, at least fake it with a loading screen. Give me, I don’t know… five seconds of pretend effort before you slap me with failure. That’d be way more convincing. And hey—this tip’s free. But the next one? I’m charging. With the sheer number of bugs iOS 26 and macOS are pumping out, I’ll be a millionaire in no time.
