path rename with spaces in the path result in "wrong number of fields in path rename command"

path rename does not seem to handle spaces correctly for me. For paths without spaces everything works as expected. But when i try to move a file with either a space in the folder or in the filename i get "wrong number of fields in path rename command".

I tried escaping the space. (\ ) and (\s) surround the paths with " and '. But none of them worked for me.

What would be the correct way of escaping or is this a bug?
