git push/fetch fails with access denied

After upgrading to gitlab-shell 2.4.1 and gitlab 7.7.1 I can no longer fetch/push.

gitlab-shell.log contains the following lines once per attempt:

D, [2015-01-24T21:40:21.476868 #475] DEBUG -- : Performing POST http://localhost:8080//api/v3/internal/allowed
D, [2015-01-24T21:40:21.525283 #475] DEBUG -- : Received response 200 => <{"status":true,"message":""}>.
W, [2015-01-24T21:40:21.525374 #475]  WARN -- : gitlab-shell: Access denied for git command <git-receive-pack '/adminstuff/systemconfig.git'> by user with key key-1.

For me that reads as if gitlab is OK with the access, but gitlab-shell does not understand that for some reason. Any ideas?
