Alter Roll - Game Instructions
Objective:
Bring your opponent’s health down to zero to win!
Overview:
Alter Roll is a 2-player, turn-based game. Each player picks a team (red or blue poker chips) and takes turns using cards, rolling dice, and managing action points to defeat the opponent.
Game Structure:
- Use Action Points:
- Spend your 4 action points to play cards or use the ROLL card.
- Playing Cards:
- You can play any card in your hand or the ROLL card.
- The black number (top-left) shows the card’s cost in action points.
- The blue number (center) is the card’s effect value.
- The symbol (bottom-right) shows the card type:
- 🩷 Heart = Heal yourself
- 🗡️ Knife = Damage your opponent
- ROLL Card:
- The ROLL card can be used multiple times as long as you have action points.
- It lets you randomly re-roll values on:
- A card’s blue value number
- A card’s black action point cost
- Die faces (yours or your opponent’s)
- How to use:
- Click the ROLL card.
- Select the number you want to change (Numbers you can choose will become animated).
- Click again to lock in a new random number.
- End Your Turn:

Very fun two player game. Pretty limited by the fact that you can only draw one card per turn. Love the luck and dice element in here.
The thing that stood out to me was how the UI design is well optimised for a two player game, including the screen flipping when the player changes. I actually switched to my phone to play this and it really feels like a game I would pull out and play with a friend at a cafe or restaurant. I did find you can predict what the die will land on because it is shown underneath the dice rolling animation, but I appreciate you may not have had time to change this during the game jam.
I didn't have a second player to play this with but it was not difficult to imagine what it would be like to have an opponent.
