Recommendations to others considering Accela:
If the system meets your business needs, it is a great system with impressive functionality to leverage. Make sure to map out your current business processes, understand the requirements and what you're looking for - validate those requirements against best practices and how Accela meets your needs prior to moving into the direction of implementing the system. The less customization, the better - and this goes for any system. It's easy to be blown away by the bells and whistles, focus on the core functionality to analyze if it meets your needs. What problems is Accela solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since the project was a government funded initiative and I came to the project phase 2 I am not certain on the initial business problems, but some of the benefits I can speak to are -
1. Customer facing UI helped with labor efficiencies as peak licensing period resulted in hiring several temps/over-time. Less overtime was worked and the company was able to avoid head-count by hiring additional temps.
2. Turnaround time for licensing/status update - provided an electronic/easy way for customer to receive their licensing on spot (when inspection not necessary). This was a huge issue addressed by customers that was resolved.
3. Reporting Capabilities/Audit Trails that could be better leveraged
