What problems is iCreate Productions solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed help communicating more effectively the value we bring as a nonprofit scholarly publisher to our constituents, such as authors, reviewers, editors, and the scholarly community at large. We had a lot of messaging, resources, and information, but there was a general feeling that it wasn’t quite landing. We also had an ongoing impression that we weren’t doing enough in open science, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We had a disconnect about us as a nonprofit publisher. As a result, we needed someone from the outside to thoughtfully look at us, talk with our constituents, and help us revise our messaging to make it more accessible and understandable to our partners.
iCreate Productions provided messaging services. We called the project “Communicating the Value of Scholarly Society Publishing.” We shared all of our existing resources, such as handouts and reports. They also met with internal and external focus groups to talk through what we perceived as our value and what they perceived as our value. Then, iCreate Productions came up with suggested language. They created a potential campaign that we could build on. They mostly created the copy, the value proposition, and recommendations on how we could share it with key audiences.
We’ve implemented iCreate Productions suggested wording and revised our approach to our conferences, receiving very positive responses. We’re using their recommendations to build out a champion engagement program this fall. The goal is for the messaging we created with iCreate Productions to be ingested by the right audience and then taken by them. The vision for this project is to build a group of champions and key influencers in the field who would speak on our behalf. We’re using the messaging to engage the key influencers we’ve identified as potential champions. Next spring, we'll consider engaging iCreate Productions to help us if we need anything else.
