The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS is an upper mid-range standard-depth 36-inch French door refrigerator. It sits at the base of Bosch's lineup of consumer fridges, below the similarly designed Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS and ultra high-end Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS. This unit features an in-fridge ice maker, a water and ice dispenser with an ice-crush function built into its fridge door, and a trio of split shelves. Its cooling system is similar to the aforementioned Bosch 500 Series, with an inverter-controlled compressor and a single evaporator in the freezer. It also has the brand's 'MultiAirFlow' system, which consists of a series of vents that are meant to evenly distribute cold air throughout the cabinet.

Our Verdict

7.2
Everyday Use

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS is a satisfactory option for everyday use. It offers enough interior capacity within the fridge and freezer compartments for bigger families, with wide, deep split shelving and high-capacity door bins. Temperatures are also generally consistent throughout the main cabinet, though the door bins are best used for storing less temperature-sensitive items. Unfortunately, it doesn't do an especially good job of retaining moisture in its crisper drawers, and as a result, you'll start seeing wilting in delicate produce more quickly than you'd expect.

Pros
  • Impressive overall capacity in fridge compartment.

  • Excellent temperature uniformity in freezer.

  • Good freezer storage capacity.

Cons
  • Crisper drawers do little to seal in moisture.

  • Refrigerator door bins and upper shelf are a few degrees warmer than the rest of the cabinet.

6.3
Produce Preservation

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS's produce preservation performance is mediocre. Its crisper drawers aren't sealed especially tightly, making them relatively dry environments for storing fresh produce, as is the main fridge cabinet. As a result, delicate greens like lettuce and spinach will lose their moisture quickly, and you'll begin to see wilting faster than you'd expect for a fridge of this type.

Pros
None
Cons
  • Crisper drawers do little to seal in moisture.

8.3
Refrigerator Capacity

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS has impressive storage capacity in its main fridge cabinet. There's enough room for a whole host of bulky items, ranging from casserole dishes to cake pans. The crisper drawers are deep and tall enough to fit bigger fruits like pomegranates or oranges, and the deli drawer will accommodate wedges of cheese or packs of deli meat without too much trouble.

Pros
  • Impressive overall capacity in fridge compartment.

Cons
None
7.6
Freezer Capacity

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS has good capacity inside its freezer. The lower bins have sufficient capacity to fit family-sized packs of frozen meals. Since there's no in-freezer ice maker, you can also use the entirety of the full-width upper drawer for smaller items like bags of frozen fruit or veggies, smaller meal prep containers, and cans of juice concentrate, though this upper drawer is a little short in terms of height.

Pros
  • Good freezer storage capacity.

Cons
None
7.9
Temperature Uniformity

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS's temperature uniformity is very good. Temperatures in the main fridge cabinet are fairly consistent, barring the slightly warmer upper shelf. The door bins also tend to be a few degrees warmer than the rest of the compartment and should be used for chilling foodstuffs and drinks that aren't especially temperature sensitive, like unopened juice cartons or soda. Temperatures within the freezer are very uniform, and items left inside will be cooled to a similar degree over time.

Pros
  • Excellent temperature uniformity in freezer.

Cons
  • Refrigerator door bins and upper shelf are a few degrees warmer than the rest of the cabinet.

7.2
Ice Making

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS's ice-making capability is decent overall. It can make enough ice in a 24-hour period for a small family dinner, but you're likely to run out of ice, even with the tray filled to capacity, for any gathering larger than that.

Pros
None
Cons
  • Ice making capacity is really only sufficient for smaller gatherings.

    Popular Refrigerator Comparisons

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS is an upper mid-range French door fridge. It's the baby of Bosch's lineup, which still puts it in a fairly high price bracket in the grand scheme of things and in something of an awkward spot in terms of market positioning. It faces competition from the premium sub-brands of more mainstream manufacturers, including those from GE's Profile lineup, such as the GE Profile PGE29BYTFS. The latter offers goodies like a separate climate-controlled drawer and a significantly greater ice-making capacity. Unlike the Bosch, it also has a dual-evaporator cooling system: while it doesn't yield the expected benefits to produce preservation in that fridge, it should still limit odor transference across the freezer and fridge compartments. Next to the pricier middle-child Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS, the 100 Series has much worse produce preservation performance, the result of its more basic, poorly sealed crisper drawers, though it's otherwise similarly designed. If you're not too fussed about its mediocre performance in that one respect, it's a fairly well-rounded unit, with a high-capacity interior.

The Bosch B36FD10ENS has an impressively large fridge cabinet. Compared to the Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS, it's down one shelf, with three movable shelves to the latter's four. That gives you less room to fit things like meal-prep containers, jars of pickled goods, or bigger items like casserole dishes, though the silver lining is that you'll have more space to fit taller items like fresh herbs and narrow-neck bottles. The bottom full-width drawer extends almost all the way to the back of the unit and can be used to fit wedges of cheese or family-sized packs of deli meat pretty easily. That said, it doesn't offer a separate climate-controlled space like the separate drawer found in the GE Profile PGE29BYTFS.

The ice dispenser takes up a fair amount of room within the left door, though there is a pair of shallow bins that wrap around it; these bins are big enough to squeeze in condiment bottles or soda cans. The primary door bins in the right door are movable for squeezing in taller items and wide enough for bulky items like cartons of juice.

    Advertised Freezer Volume
    8.0 cu. ft. (226.5 L)
    Usable Freezer Volume
    4.6 cu. ft. (130.0 L)

The freezer's storage capacity is good. The lower bins are tall and extend pretty far back, making them suitable for storing bigger boxed items, like frozen pizzas, chicken or fish filets, and family-sized packs of burger patties. The lack of an ice maker inside this compartment allows you to use the upper drawer for things like bags of frozen fruit or veggies.

    Cooling System
    Evaporator Configuration
    Single Evaporator
    Compressor Configuration
    Single Compressor
    Compressor Type
    Inverter

The Bosch B36FD10ENS has a relatively conventional cooling system, comprising an inverter-controlled compressor and a single evaporator in the freezer. On paper, an inverter compressor like the one in this fridge results in lower energy consumption and more consistent temperatures, as it can operate steadily at a lower speed rather than having to cycle on and off to maintain a temperature setpoint.

Unlike the similarly priced GE Profile PVD28BYNFS, this unit has only a single evaporator. In theory, that would appear to be a disadvantage, as dual-evaporator units are generally able to maintain more precise humidity levels in all sections of the appliance, minimizing frost buildup in the freezer and keeping moist air inside the fridge compartment to extend the lifespan of fresh produce. It isn't a silver bullet, however, as the B36FD10ENS returns generally similar performance in both regards to that aforementioned GE. It's also worth noting that a single evaporator system has fewer potential failure points than a dual-evaporator one.

    Ice Maker
    Ice Maker
    Refrigerator Door
    Ice Maker Type
    Ejector-Style

The Bosch B36FD10ENS has an in-fridge ejector-style ice maker. Generally speaking, in-fridge makers present a greater number of potential failure points compared to an in-freezer unit, as they need to be built into a temperature-controlled microclimate, necessitating a whole set of additional gaskets and seals that can degrade over time.

On the upside, ejector-style ice makers have fewer on-paper frailties than twist-tray models, the other kind of ice maker you'll see in consumer fridges. Ejector-style models are mechanically simple and subject to fairly little stress: water is frozen inside a metal mold, loosened by a heating element surrounding said mold, and then scooped into a bucket with a set of plastic rakes. In contrast, the plastic mold in a twist-tray unit can weaken from thermal shock and mechanical stress over time and eventually crack.

    Water Dispenser
    Water Dispenser
    In-Door

This unit has a combination filtered water and ice dispenser. It has an LED light to help you check how full your glass is in a dark kitchen. There's also a Bottle Fill function that dispenses a set amount of water at the press of a button; you can adjust this amount to fit your favorite bottle. There's an ice crushing function too: like most in-fridge ice crushers, it renders ice into medium-sized chips rather than smaller chunks.

    Refrigerator Shelf Gradient
    3.1 °F (1.7 °C)
    Door Bin Offset
    3.3 °F (1.8 °C)

Temperature uniformity inside the fridge compartment is okay overall. The middle and lowest shelves are the coolest sections of the fridge and are a good spot for things like milk or yogurt. That said, the upper shelf, along with all of the door bins, tends to be a handful of degrees warmer. While it isn't the highest offset of a fridge that we've tested, you should still reserve the door bins mainly for chilling beverages and condiments.

    8.8
    Freezer Temperature Uniformity

    Freezer Gradient
    2.5 °F (1.4 °C)

Temperatures in the freezer are extremely uniform. Cold air is evenly distributed throughout this compartment, so you won't need to worry about veggies being freezer-burned on one shelf and ice cream being overly soft if left on another. The inverter-controlled compressor also keeps temperature swings during normal operation fairly minimal.

    Produce Moisture Retention

    Produce Drawer Humidity Level
    45.6%
    Fridge Compartment Humidity Level

The Bosch 100 Series B36FD10ENS's produce preservation performance is mediocre. While this fridge has a similarly designed interior to the Bosch 500 Series B36FD52SNS at a glance, closer inspection reveals small differences in the design of the crisper drawers: unlike the 500 Series, you aren't able to adjust the level of desired humidity with a sliding toggle. There's also a significant gap at the edge of the crisper drawer, resulting in significant moisture loss to the main cabinet, which is already quite dry. Therefore, delicate greens like lettuce or spinach lose their moisture relatively quickly, and you'll start to see wilting and shriveling within the span of a week.

    7.2
    Ice Maker Rate
    24-Hour Ice Production
    1,290 g (2.84 lbs)

This unit's ice production rate is decent overall. In a pinch, you'll have enough ice for drinks at a small family lunch or dinner, but you'll empty the bin fast if you're hosting anything bigger than that.

    7.2
    Ice Maker Capacity
    Max Ice Maker Capacity1,815 g (4.00 lbs)

This unit's ice maker has satisfactory capacity. While a filled tray will more than suffice for smaller four- or five-person parties, you'll likely need to fill a separate container or head out and buy ice for larger parties.
