Where can I learn more about my daily usage limits/quota for Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist?

The daily usage limits you receive depend on whether or not you are using the free versions of Gemini Code Assist/Gemini CLI or a paid plan. Learn more about quotas and limits.

I have a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and I want to use Gemini CLI and/or agent mode in my IDE with higher daily usage limits. Do I need to do anything extra or will I automatically get the higher limits?

If you are subscribed to Google AI Pro or Ultra and want to ensure you have higher limits with Gemini CLI recognized, we recommend restarting your session. For the Gemini Code Assist IDE extension, Google will recognize your Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and automatically grant you higher daily usage limits.

You can always click Manage subscription in the Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions or confirm that your Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions are still active in Google Play.

I have had a Google AI Pro and Ultra subscription for some time. Do I need to anything additional to get access to higher limits in Gemini CLI and agent mode in Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions?

Because you are an existing subscriber of Google AI Pro and Ultra, you automatically have access to this new benefit and don't need to configure anything new. However, we do recommend confirming your AI Pro and Ultra subscription is still active and then restarting your session in Gemini CLI to ensure that the higher limits take effect. You don't need to restart the Gemini Code Assist extension in VS Code or IntelliJ.

How can I get Gemini Code Assist in my IDE for free?

We recommend trying Gemini Code Assist for individuals. Go to VS Code or JetBrains IntelliJ and install the Gemini Code Assist extension. Sign in with a personal Gmail account that's not associated with Workspace.

I installed the Gemini Code Assist extension in my IDE, but it says my account is ineligible for the free version, Gemini Code Assist for individuals, and is asking me if I want to input a Google Cloud project. Is this expected behavior?

Gemini Code Assist for individuals does not require you to enter a Google Cloud project.

Why your account might be ineligible

If you're encountering a message saying you are not eligible for Gemini Code Assist for individuals, then it's mostly likely because of the type of Google Account you're using.

The free version of Gemini Code Assist, Gemini Code Assist for individuals, is not yet available for Google Workspace accounts or people under the age of consent in their jurisdictions.

If you prefer to use an email address associated with Google Workspace, we encourage you to speak with your IT administrator about getting a license for Gemini Code Assist Standard or Enterprise, the business editions of Gemini Code Assist.

Try switching to a personal account

If you think you tried signing in with an account associated with Google Workspace, try signing in with a personal Google Account. You can create a personal Google Account here.

I installed the Gemini Code Assist extension in my IDE, but it says my current account is not eligible for Gemini Code Assist for individuals, the free version of Gemini Code Assist, because Google cannot determine my account's location, and is asking me to switch to another personal gmail account or input a Google Cloud project. The higher limits in your Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription are for Gemini 2.5 across both Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash. Google does not use your data to improve Google's machine learning models if you purchase a paid plan. If this is the case, we recommend signing back in with your personal Gmail account.
