Abstract

The acoustic coupler provides a thin-walled, semi-rigid, cylindrical coupling sleeve that is adapted to be attached to a cylindrical receiver assembly. An adaptive sealing material is diametrically bonded onto the coupling sleeve to fit snugly and to seal the ear canal of an individual. The coupling sleeve is substantially concentric to the receiver assembly to form an efficient, wide-space interface and an easy-to-use replacement method. Attachment of the acoustic coupler to the receiver assembly is accomplished by applying a minimum axial (driving) force in order to secure the acoustic coupler to the receiver assembly. The coupler is securely attached to it and is capable of withstanding considerable axial (pulling) forces without being dislodged from inside or outside the channel. Applying a rotary (rotating) force relative to the receiver box separates the acoustic coupler from the receiver box. Because rotational movements are minimal during insertion or removal of the coupler from an individual's ear, accidental detachment is not possible,
