APPARATUS
This application relates to an apparatus for washing the hopper and discharge chute componets of a ready mix concrete truck at a construction site after use. The name of the apparatus is Envirochute.
Conventional concrete trucks discharge concrete from the mixer drum down a chute to the desired discharge location.
Concrete mixer truck wash-off material can pose serious environmental concerns. In many cases precautions must be taken at the construction site to ensure that sediment and cementitious material does not contaminate the site or adjoining waterways. Enforcement of environmental regulations at construction sites is becoming increasingly stringent.
After concrete has been fully discharged from the truck, i the operator will rinse material adhering to the discharge hopper and outlet chute before leaving the construction site.
S Description and Summary of Invention In accordance with the invention, a wash down and containment device is described for use in association with a concrete truck having a mixing drum and a discharge chute.
The apparatus comprises a container mountable on the end of the discharge chute, the container having an open upper end, a screen removably positioned within the container and an outlet located in a lower portion of the container below the 2 screen. When the operator applies air pressure, the lower portion of the container becomes pressurized and discharges the slurry water back into the mixer drum of the concrete truck. The lower pressure vessel portion of this unit has a pressure regulator valve installed for safety reasons. The screen which has openings approximately 3/16 inches in diameter to trap aggregate 1/4 inch in diameter or larger particle size, thereby preventing clogging of the pressure vessel during the discharge cycle.
The screen includes a lip on its upper frame for lifting out the screen and any of the relatively large particle size aggregate which has accumulated on the screen in the container.

Claims (8)
1. A wash down and containment apparatus to be used in conjunction with the drum of a ready mix concrete truck and its discharge chutes, said apparatus consisting of: A portable container, capable of mounting on the end of the discharge chute, said container being a one piece self contained unit consisting of an open-ended hopper with a removable screen attached to a regulated pressure discharge vessel with a discharge outlet located at its lowest point and a discharge hose returning to the mixer drum.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, utilizes pressurized air supplied by the ready mix truck to discharge collected cement/sand slurry waters.
3. The apparatus of claim 2, is regulated to a maximum operating pressure of 15psi and incorporates a ball value for energizing an inline pressure release valve to ensure safe operation.
4. The apparatus of claim 1, has no moving wear parts and discharges the slurries back to the drum of the ready mix truck via a 1" discharge hose. Wherein operation of the pressure vessel automatically recirculates rinse water and relatively small particle size sediment from the lower portion of the container through a discharge hose into the mixing drum, of the ready mix concrete truck.
The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said screen has openings approximately 3/16" diamond shaped screen for permitting water and relatively small particle size sediment to pass through but which prevents the passage of relatively large particle size aggregate.
6. The apparatus of claim 1. wherein said screen further comprises a formed lip on its upper surface for lifting the screen and any large particle size aggregate which has been accumulated. The apparatus of claim i, further comprising of a secondary screen having 3/16" openings and mounted over the inlet of pressure vessel
7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising of brackets for mounting on the mixer truck for securely supporting the container when it is not in use.
8. A wash-down and containment apparatus to be used in i conjunction with the mixing drum of ready mix a concrete truck and its discharge chutes, said apparatus consisting off: a portable container capable of mounting on the end of the discharge chute, said container consisting of an open ended hopper, with a removable screen .i positioned within the top portion of the container and an inlet located in a upper portion of the pressurized portion of container below the screen; and further a discharge outlet located at the lowest point of discharge. L a hose connected to the outlet and having an open end emptying into the concrete mixing drum; and regulated air pressure for automatically transporting any rinse water and relatively small particle size sediment capable of passing through the screens into the lower pressurized discharge portion of the container to the mixing drum through discharge hose.
