Abstract

A cotton cloth enclosed Chitin powder compound that is sewn within the potential space inside the cotton cloth layers to contain the Chitin, which is a powerful oil sorbent. The cloth sizes range from 12" by 12" to 56" by 10 ft. At each of two opposite ends there will be a staple or nail secured wooden block or plastic block to ensure the flotation of the apparatus, running the length of the side of the apparatus. The cotton allows the penetration of the oil through it and the oil comes into contact with the Chitin inside the cotton pouch and is adsorbed and absorbed by the Chitin. The Chitin pouch can be used to apply directly to oil spills on land or water.

Description

Claims (5)

1. I claim as my invention a cotton knit pouch holding varying amounts of chitin powder within the pouch of sizes ranging from 12 inches by 12 inches to 56" by 12 feet .
2. As in claim 1, the pouch is sewn closed at both ends and or all sides, to contain the Chitin powder.
3. As in claims 1 and 2, a pair of wooden beams attached to opposing ends of two sides of the pouch will be stapled or nailed to the cotton pouch, running the full length of the said sides.
4. As in claim 3, nylon or cotton or jute rope will be fastened to the wooden beams through holes and tied in a knot for security, in up to a 3 foot length at each end to afford easy handling of the pouches, the larger size pouches may have a total of six ropes.
5. The said pouches may be tied together by the said ropes to form spill treatment booms on water spills.
