Description
Technical Field
The present description relates to vehicle headlamps.
One or more embodiments may relate to a universal adapter device for mounting a retrofit lamp on a vehicle headlamp.
One or more embodiments may relate to a headlamp assembly for a vehicle provided with a universal adapter device.
Background
In the field of vehicle headlamps, the use of lighting devices employing one or more solid-state light radiation sources, such as LEDs, is becoming increasingly widespread.
Lamp manufacturers of vehicle headlamps are developing lamps provided with LED light radiation sources which can be used as retrofit lamps in vehicle headlamps designed to use incandescent lamps.
One of the problems encountered in the development of retrofit lamps for vehicle headlights is that different car manufacturers use different systems for fixing the lamp to the headlight.
Headlamps for vehicles designed to use H7 incandescent lamps can be provided with a rear opening through which the bulb of the H7 lamp is inserted.
A first problem encountered in developing a retrofit lamp for a vehicle headlamp compatible with different vehicle models is that the diameter of the opening for the lamp varies depending on the vehicle model. For example, the inner diameter of the opening for mounting the lamp in a vehicle headlight can vary between 20.4mm and 28.4mm for a range of common vehicle models in the european market.
A second problem is that the fixing system of the lamp to the headlight of the vehicle varies according to different vehicle models.

It is an object of one or more embodiments to provide an adapter device for mounting a retrofit lamp to different models of vehicle headlights.
According to one or more embodiments, this object can be achieved by an adapter device having the features mentioned in the appended claims.
One or more embodiments may also relate to a headlamp assembly for a vehicle provided with a universal adapter device.
The claims form an integral part of the technical disclosure provided herein with respect to the embodiments.

The adapter device 30 may be mounted on the rear portion 14 of the headlight 12, as shown in fig. 3. The fastening ring 32 may be positioned coaxially with the opening 16 and bear against the outer edge 20 of the opening 16. The flexible arms 50 of the connecting element 46 may be inserted through the windows 42 of the fastening ring 32 and through the openings 16. In one or more embodiments, two arms 50 extend through each window 42. The hooked end 52 of the flexible arm 50 may engage the inner edge 18 of the opening 16. The helical spring 54 is axially compressed between the outer annular flange 48 of the connecting element 46 and the fastening ring 32. In one or more embodiments, the second end 58 of the coil spring 54 is received in the groove 44 formed between the cylindrical section 38 and the annular rim 34 of the fastening ring 32. The hook-shaped end 52 of the arm 50 holds the connecting element 46 axially with respect to the rear portion 14 of the headlight 12 against the elastic action of the spring 54. The spring 54 resiliently presses the fastening ring 32 against the outer edge 20 of the opening 16. The flexible arms 50 may be radially deformed to allow the hook-shaped end portions 52 to pass through the fastening ring 32 and through the opening 16.
In the assembled position shown in fig. 3, the fastening ring 32 is fixed to the rear portion 14 of the headlight 12.
The elongated portion 24 of the lamp 22 may be inserted into the cylindrical section 38 of the fastening ring 32 in the direction of the longitudinal axis a. The lamp 22 may be secured to the fastening ring 32 by means of the radial pins 28 of the elongated portion 24, which radial pins 28 may engage with bayonet engagement structures 40 formed on the inner surface of the cylindrical section 38.
It will be appreciated that the connecting elements 46 may allow fastening the adapter ring 32 to the rear portion of the headlamp, which includes openings 16 having different diameters and different depths. In particular, the connecting element 46 may allow fastening the adapter ring 32 to the opening 16, the opening 16 having a diameter variable in a range between 20.4mm and 28.4mm, which is a variation of the diameter of the opening for most lamps of vehicle headlights on the market.
The connecting element 46 can therefore allow the fastening ring 32 to be mounted on headlights for different models of vehicle.
Thus, the adapter device 30 can allow the LED retrofit lamp to be mounted on a wide variety of headlamps for vehicles designed to receive the H7 incandescent lamp.
