2. The illumination device of claim 1, wherein the light source is a light emitting diode, a vertical cavity surface emitting laser, or a laser diode.
3. The illumination device according to claim 1, wherein the diffusion portion has a primary wavelength structure.
4. The illumination device according to claim 1, wherein the diffusion portion has a surface relief microstructure.
5. The illumination device according to claim 1, wherein the diffusion portion is a diffractive optical element.
6. The illumination device according to claim 1, wherein the diffusion portion is a microlens array.
7. The illumination device of claim 1, wherein the diffuser is a microprism.
