Abstract

With low-cost airlines in particular, check-in is still carried out in the terminal, but then the passengers take all their luggage themselves - including the large luggage to be checked in, the so-called checked-in luggage that is transported in the hold of the aircraft with up to the aircraft, and only then hand it in for loading in the hold.

If it turns out during the loading process for the checked baggage or only after its completion that a passenger booked on this aircraft has not entered the aircraft, the checked baggage belonging to this passenger must be removed from the aircraft again. This means that the entire checked baggage has to be searched for this specific piece of baggage, and for this in particular the baggage that is already densely stacked in the hold of the aircraft has to be separated and searched again, which causes a considerable delay for the aircraft to take off.

The disordered delivery to the cargo space also has the disadvantage that the personnel can only prioritize items of luggage in a time-uncritical manner by briefly looking at the transport label of the item of luggage, which is subject to errors.

It is therefore the object of the invention to provide a method which ensures that items of checked baggage only get into the hold when the associated passenger has already entered the aircraft.

Solution of the task

This object is achieved by the features of claims 1 and 12. Advantageous embodiments emerge from the subclaims.

In a first design, this task is achieved in that the passengers have their check-in baggage, which they have taken with them to the apron, there - mostly in the immediate vicinity of the aircraft, e.g. on the gangway - in one set up on the apron , closed drop-off area, which the passengers can only exit into the aircraft.

A closed delivery space is not understood to mean that this delivery space is closed on all sides, but only that it is surrounded by space boundaries, i.e. barriers, so that a passenger is not able to overcome these space boundaries, at least not without causing a stir.

The space boundaries can be, for example, mobile barriers that can be lined up and, in particular, can be seamlessly connected to one another, in particular wall elements, which surround the delivery area except for an entrance and an exit for the passengers.

If a passenger were to try to climb over or knock over such a wall in the delimitation space, this would be noticed immediately by the staff on site. These wall elements should preferably be high enough and stable enough that a passenger can neither climb over nor knock them over.

Even without a roof adjoining the wall elements, it is then a closed delivery space in the sense of the present invention.

The exit for the passengers leads exclusively into the aircraft, in that, for example, at least the lower end of the gangway ends in this delivery area surrounded by the space boundaries on the apron or is part of the delivery area as a whole, so that it is the upper end of the gangway forms the exit of the delivery room.

The entrance can be a simple opening and gap in the room delimitation through which the passengers - for example coming from the apron bus parked immediately next to it - enter the delivery area.

As soon as all passengers transported from the terminal for this flight have entered the delivery area, this entrance is closed, in which the opening is designed, for example, as a lockable door.

The floor of the delivery area can be formed by the subsurface, i.e. the apron itself or it can be a separate floor area of the delivery area arranged thereon, in particular if the delivery area is a cabin that is also closed on the top and which can possibly be adjusted in height and raised to the level of the aircraft door instead of a gangway, so to use a mobile staircase.

The passengers can hand in their checked-in luggage at a defined delivery point located within the delivery area, which can for example consist of a luggage trolley parked there within the delivery area, which is preferably only picked up by the loading staff when all passengers leave the delivery area into the aircraft to have.

Since this delays the loading process, the space delimitation of the drop-off area usually has a baggage passage through which the drop-off baggage can be moved from the inside to the outside, but which is designed in such a way that a passenger cannot move through it, to leave the delivery room, at least not without attracting attention.

This can also be ensured by a person sensor arranged there, which only strikes a living being moving through the baggage passage and emits an alarm signal.

A mobile baggage conveyor, for example, can extend through the baggage passage from the outside into the delivery area, the end of which represents the delivery point for the drop-off luggage there. The mobile baggage conveyor can extend from there to the loading hatch of the cargo hold of the aircraft or only serve for the automatic loading of baggage trolleys, by means of which the distance between the release room and the loading hatch is covered with the checked baggage.

In the case of a second design, the delivery area is arranged at least partially in the passenger part of an apron bus that brings passengers from the terminal to the aircraft. A distinction must be made between two variants:

Here, too, a transport device for the checked baggage can be provided to make it easier, which extends from the passenger part through the baggage passage into the baggage part, whereby the baggage can be piled up there even without the manual involvement of the passengers to achieve a better use of space in the luggage compartment.

In a second variant, the drop-off point is not only outside the baggage part of the apron bus, but also outside the apron bus, namely at its departure point, in particular at or near the terminal where the passengers board the bus, for example on the apron.

For example, the luggage part of the bus can have a luggage passage in its outer wall and not in its partition wall towards the passenger part, through which a luggage conveyor can also extend from outside to inside the luggage part to make things easier.

Before boarding the bus, passengers first pass this drop-off point, drop off their drop-off luggage there by pushing it through the luggage passage or placing it on the end of the luggage conveyor protruding from the luggage part, and then leave continue to the entrance of the apron bus and enter its passenger area.

The luggage part can be an integral part of the bus or a separate part from the bus, for example a luggage trolley attached to the bus, i.e. a luggage trailer, which, however, does not necessarily have to be pulled from the bus, but also by a separate tractor can be pulled to the aircraft.

So that the passengers can only get into the aircraft after handing in their checked baggage, the space between the baggage passage of the baggage part and the entrance to the passenger part is part of the closed drop-off area. Part and the luggage part of the apron bus on the one hand represent space boundaries and - for example mobile - space boundaries complement this to a closed space delimitation that only has one entrance for the passengers has, for example, facing the exit of the terminal.

The passenger part of the bus can then be seen as part of the delivery area or as a separate transfer room which the passengers located there can only leave again into the aircraft.

If necessary, the boundaries of the transfer area must be placed close to the outer wall of the apron bus on both sides of the exit by the apron staff before the passengers get off.

These measures ensure that a passenger, after handing in their checked baggage at a drop-off point within the drop-off area, which is tightly closed for passengers - even though it was close to the terminal and outside the apron bus - can access the drop-off area via the passenger part of the apron -Bus and transfer room can only exit into the aircraft.

An advantage of this second variant is that if the luggage part is designed as a trailer that can also be coupled and uncoupled to the apron bus - which, as previously usual, only contains one passenger part - no modifications to the apron previously used -Buses are necessary.

In addition, in order to accelerate the handling of the aircraft, the aim is to ensure that the checked baggage is loaded in the aircraft while the passengers are boarding the aircraft.

For this purpose, it is advantageous that the luggage part is detachably attached to the passenger part and can be positioned near the loading hatch of the aircraft for loading the cargo space, while the apron bus with the passenger part there which is driven to the passenger door Discharges passengers in the direction of the aircraft. Such a detachable design of the luggage part can be realized much more easily with a luggage part designed as a trailer than with a luggage part integrated in the chassis of the apron bus.

Alternatively, the bus and attached luggage trolley can remain coupled to the aircraft during unloading, in which case the distance between the luggage trolley and a conveyor belt trolley at the loading hatch of the aircraft is preferably bridged by means of a mobile feed conveyor.

If, on the other hand, the luggage part and the passenger part are firmly and permanently connected to one another, the emptying of the luggage part and the passenger part usually has to take place one after the other and delays the loading process.

Even if the passengers take their checked baggage with them to the aircraft themselves and transport it, until now they have usually still checked in and given boarding passes in the terminal. Alternatively, however, the check-in could also take place in the delivery room or the transfer room, be it in the passenger part of the bus or a mobile check-in counter on the apron, in particular close to the aircraft.
