Abstract

1,041,476. Bearings. NITTOKU KINZOKUKOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Sept. 30, 1964 [Oct. 1, 1963], No. 39831/64. Heading F2A. A combination ball or roller and plain bearing comprises a radial or thrust ball or roller bearing having at least one of the races thereof incorporating a ring of bearing material which is assembled concentrically or co-axially with said race. In an embodiment, a ball bearing has an inner race 1, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), an outer race 2 and balls 3 therebetween which are provided with a cage 4. A ring 5 of bearing material and a supporting-ring 6 are mounted concentrically within the inner race 1 and a ring 7 of bearing material and a supporting-ring 8 are mounted concentrically around the outer race 2. Shields 9, 10 are mounted in recesses in the rings 6, 8, the races 1, 2 being shorter than the rings 6, 8 and being abutted by the shields. In a modification, the inner ring is divided into parts 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), each having outwardly-directed flanges which retain thrust-washers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> against the inner race 1; and the outer ring is divided into parts 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, each having inwardly-directed flanges which retain thrust-washers 10, 10<SP>1</SP> against the outer race 2. The rings 5, 7 and the thrust-washers 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, 10, 10<SP>1</SP> may be made of steel or of P.T.F.E. and oil-grooves may be provided therein.
