Abstract

1,048,606. Ultra-violet radiation devices. DESAGA LABOR-TECHNIK G.m.b.H. June 12, 1964, No. 24584/64. Heading F4R. [Also in Division B1] A device for fluorescent excitation of substances on thin-layer chromatograms and paper chromatograms or for like purposes, comprises a housing 1 having a viewing window 1a provided with a diffusing screen, an arrangement of luminescent discharge tubes giving a daylight effect below the screen, a set of electrical accessories such as switches, starters, and indicating lamps being housed in or on the housing and at least one arm 2 carrying a reflector 3 in which is mounted a luminescent tube 5 for long-wave ultraviolet radiation and/or a luminescent tube 4 for short-wave ultraviolet radiation. The latter may be provided with a filter for absorbing the visible radiation. A supporting stud 9 for a camera may be mounted on the casing. The arm 2 may be of the adjustable stay-put type. It is stated that the device can be used for the de-iodizing of organic iodine compounds by replacing the tubes by short-wave ultraviolet radiating tubes. The base may be fitted with lugs for hanging from the wall for use as a lighting device for viewing X-ray films.
