Abstract

1,063,203. Printing processes. RESEARCH LABORATORIES OF AUSTRALIA Ltd. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct. 2, 1962; Jan. 8, 1963], No. 38280/63. Heading B6C. An image 21 with the medium thereof in a wet condition and supported on a master sheet 20 is transferred to a copy sheet 20 whilst the contacting sheets are passed through the bites of roller pairs A to G, Fig. 1. A D.C. voltage is applied across each roller pair, the voltage applied to each succeeding pair being lower than that applied to its immediate predecessor. Ranges of 50 V. to 1000 V., 5 V. to 200 V., 10 V. to 1000 V., 500 V. to 7-5 kV. and 200 V. to 4À5 kV. are given as examples in conjunction with the described apparatus, the voltage range used depending upon the materials of the sheets. In a modification of the apparatus the image on the master sheet is dry, the copy sheet being wetted with a solvent prior to passage through the first roller pair. A number of copies may be made with the same master by using this apparatus. Fig 84 shows an apparatus incorporating a series of roller pairs the voltage to each pair depending upon the setting of a potentiometer 76. The lower rollers 55 are spring-loaded upwardly, adjustment being effective through individual screw members 61. These rollers are belt-driven from a motor 65. If the apparatus of the invention is to be used to produce a number of copies the electrostatic fields between the rollers are adjusted accordingly such that only a part of the image medium is transferred to each copy sheet.
