[Also in Division B3] A machine for stacking ingots comprises support fingers for rising beneath a group of ingots and lifting them from supporting bars, the fingers being mounted on a reciprocating carriage which advances them to above the stacking position, permits them to tilt downwards and then withdraws them past means for stripping the ingots onto the stack. The ingots K are advanced along bars, Fig. 8, by dogs 6 mounted to feed forward above the bars and withdraw beneath them on the non- feeding stroke (Fig. 7, not shown). The fingers 17 are mounted on carriages 16 reciprocated through links 19, 20 with lost motion limited by stops 23, 24. In the withdrawn position, the fingers are lowered, but as the links 19, 20 pivot clockwise as shown, to advance the carriages, members 26 on the links 19 pivot the fingers upwards to raise the ingots above clear of the bars. When the carriages are fully advanced, the links 19, 20 pivot anticlockwise prior to withdrawal and the fingers 17 descend so that strippers 28 will remove the ingots as the fingers retract.
