Abstract

1,124,915. Pneumatic tyre treads. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 1 March, 1966 [20 March, 19651, No. 8830/66. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre tread has radial projections 4 whose radial faces 7 are coated with material 9 having an abrasion resistance greater than that of the rest of the tread rubber so as to reduce or prevent rounding-off of the edges of the projections. A layer of the material 9 may be applied to the tyre tread when in uncured, unmoulded condition and cured therewith, the layer splitting between the projections to leave clear the bases 10 of the grooves. Alternatively, strips of material 9 may be applied to the moulded tread of a partially-vulcanized tyre and the assembly replaced in the mould to complete the curing and bond the strips to the tyre, or a vulcanized tyre may be dipped in or sprayed with material 9.
