Abstract

1,215,135. Moulding decorated hollow articles. METTOY CO. Ltd. 5 Feb., 1968 [7 Feb., 1967], No. 5812/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B6] Hollow plastics article decorated by an applied foil are made by performing the foil to the shape of a mould in which the article is to be formed or finished, placing the foil in the mould to form a lining thereto, inserting a hollow plastics parison or hollow plastics preform into the mould, closing the mould and bonding the foil to the plastics article by the application of heat and pressure. The foil may be made in two or more parts which fit together to cover substantially all the interior of the mould and may comprise a transparent film with printing on its inside face. The mould surface may comprise a pattern in relief or intaglio to shape the surface of the article and air may be introduced into the preform to assist the expansion and bonding to the foil. The plastics article which may be an inflatable ball may be formed from polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene.
