Abstract

1314318 Slide valves for metallurgical ladles JAPAN SPECIAL STEEL CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 June 1970] 26007/71 Heading F4B In a slide valve for a metallurgical ladle a gas permeable block 11 in the lower slide plate 9 supplies an inert gas, e.g. argon when said plate is closed keeping the metal entering the bottom ladle nozzle 15 agitated and molten to facilitate pouring. A modified construction (Fig. 7) has a porous ring defining the nozzle in the fixed plate 12. The porous block or ring may be replaced by a water cooled metal nozzle formed with small pores or incorporating a graphite insert.
