1319240 Moulding twisted rods of toffee, caramel, &c. ROSE FORGROVE Ltd 11 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 58353/69 Heading B5A In a method of forming a rod of toffee or the like having a twisted appearance, the rod 11 is passed, by a pair of feed rollers 13, along a guide channel 12 and through the nip of four marking rollers 14, each having a peripheral groove 23 of arcuate shape corresponding to the arcuate shape of the portion of the rod which it abuts, the combined arcuate length of the grooves at the nip point being sufficient to circumscribe the rod; the marking rollers 14 each have alternating teeth 24 and spaces 26 arranged such that as the rod passes through the nip point, a helical pattern is defined on it by the rollers. The marking rollers, which are supported on shafts 27 in bearing members 28, are driven from a common driving bevel gear 36 through bevel gears 37, 38, 39, 41, 42, 43. The marking roller situated above the path of the rod is mounted pivotably at 33 to facilitate cleaning, &c. The marked toffee is cut by a rotating knife 16, which severs the rod at intervals, the severed lengths 17 being fed to a wrapping machine.
