Abstract

1449483 Mixing fluids H MUNTZ and D I BREWSTER 17 Sept 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 37044/73 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions A4 and F4] In a method of steam cleaning a cleaning fluid is added to a hot flow of a mixture of exhaust combustion gases and water downstream of the point of mixture of the latter. An apparatus comprises a combustion chamber 1 having an inlet 5 for a combustible fluid and an exit passage 7 for exhaust gases, in heat exchange relationship with a second chamber 10 having an inlet 9 for water and an outlet 11 for a pre-heated mixture of water and steam adjacent the combustion chamber exit 7; the combined mixture passes through a conduit 12 to which cleaning fluid is admitted at 15. The passage 7 may be venturiform having the outlet 11 on its throat. The arrangement makes it possible to use a cleaning fluid which is combustible, to produce wet or dry steam and to work with steam alone.
