Abstract

1401620 Hydrocarbon conversion catalysts SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 15 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 38525/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Catalysts comprising a sulphide of Ni, Co, Mo and/or W are made by treating a composition comprising a porous carrier, a watersoluble salt of Ni, Co, Mo and/or W and water with a hydrogen sulphide-containing gas at a temperature below 150‹C and subsequently heating up the material in a hydrogencontaining gas to a final temperature above 200‹C. The amount of water in the composition to be treated with the hydrogen sulphidecontaining gas corresponds to the amount present in the composition after drying in a dry gas at 110‹C + 20-120% of the amount which the dried composition can absorb in the pores of the carrier at 20‹C. The composition to be sulphided may be prepared by impregnation in one or more steps either with drying after each step, the drying after the last step being controlled to give the correct water content, or when each impregnation uses a volume of solution substantially equal to the pore volume of the carrier with drying after each step except the last. The hydrogen sulphide - containing gas may be pure H 2 S or H 2 S+H 2 and the hydrogen-containing gas may be H 2 S+H 2 .
