Seed distributors.-The delivery brush or slide of a machine for planting or sowing seeds is driven by ratchet gearing, actuated by one or more equidistant projections d<5>, Figs. 1 and 2, on a continuously-moving chain D driven by sprocket and chain gearing from the roller or ground-wheel A. The ratchet m is fixed to a transverse shaft K upon which is loosely mounted the weighted pawl m<1>, projections n on which are engaged by the sides n<1> of a forked frame N loosely mounted on the shaft and actuated by the projections d<5>. Each link d<1> of the chain, Fig. 4, has a hole d<2> for engagement with the sprocket teeth and a hole d<3> to receive the hook d<4> of the adjacent link; to vary the distance apart of the seeds planted, one or more links d' are added to or removed from the chain, thus increasing or diminishing the distance between the projections d<5>. The shaft K is connected to the brush or slide by gearing. The seed-delivery mechanism is put out of gear by turning the frame N into the vertical position out of the way of the projections d<5>; stops are provided to hold the frame N and pawl m<1> in their operative and inoperative positions.
