Description

SPECIFICATION Rusk or biscuit holder This invention relates to a rusk or biscuit holder for babies.
Babies are frequently given rusks or biscuits both as a source of food, as a comfort and to aid in teething. Just as frequently the baby will, after sucking or chewing at the rusk or biscuit for a short while drop the rusk or biscuit often with the result that the rusk or biscuit has to be discarded. This is clearly wasteful.
The present invention has as its object to provide a holder for a rusk or biscuit which will aid in preventing the rusk or biscuit being dropped on the floor.
The present invention provides a holder for rusk or biscuit, the holder comprising a socket portion adapted to receive an end portion of a rusk or biscuit and means for attaching the holder to a ribbon or string.
At least the socket portion of the holder is preferably formed from an elastic material, such as a latex, neoprene or other natural or synthetic rubber or a suitable plastics material, which will stretch over and tightly grip an end portion of a rusk or biscuit of suitable size.
Preferably the socket portion is a cup-shaped portion.
The means for attaching the holder to a ribbon or string may comprise a ring or loop at a base end of the socket portion. Such ring or loop may be formed integrally with the socket portion.
Preferably a disc or washer of larger diameter than the socket portion is interposed between the socket portion and the ring or loop, the said disc or washer being of a diameter sufficient to prevent a baby inserting the whole of the holder into its mouth.
It will readily be appreciated that because the holder can be attached to a ribbon or string the holder can readily be suspended around the neck of a baby or attached to a pram, cot, high chair or the like so that even if the baby should drop a rusk or biscuit held in the socket portion the rusk or biscuit will simply be suspended on the ribbon or string and will not fall onto the floor where it may become dirty and have to be discarded.
The invention will be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder for a rusk or biscuit according to the present invention, and Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof on a slightly larger scale.
Referring to the drawings it will be seen that the holder 1 comprises a cup-shaped socket portion 2, a ring portion 3 whereby the holder 1 can be attached to a ribbon or string 4 and a disc or washer 5 intermediate the socket 2 and the ring portion 3.
At least the socket portion 2 of the holder 1 is formed from an elastic material such as rubber, synthetic rubber or a suitable plastics material, which can be stretched over and will grip one end of a rusk or biscuit 6 of suitable size and shape inserted therein.
The ring portion 3 is preferably formed integrally with the socket portion 2. The disc or washer 5 may be either integral with or formed separately from the socket portion 2 and ring portion 3. Where the disc or washer 5 is formed separately, then it may be formed from a suitable synthetic plastics material. The disc or washer 5 is of sufficient diameter to prevent a baby inserting the whole of the holder 1 into its mouth and so possibly choking on the holder 1.
The material chosen for the holder 1 should be non-toxic to babies and should be such that the holder 1 can be sterilized as by boiling or soaking in a sterilizing solution such as is used for baby feeding bottles and teets.

6. A holder according to claim 5, wherein the ring or loop is formed integrally with the socket portion.
7. A holder according to claim 5 or 6, wherein a disc or washer of larger diameter than the socket portion and of a diameter sufficient to prevent a baby inserting the whole of the holder into its mouth is interposed between the socket portion and the ring or loop.
8. A holder according to any one of the preceding claims, when formed from a material which is non-toxic to babies and which can be sterilized by boiling or soaking in a sterilizing solution such as is used for baby feeding bottles and teats.
