Description

Depository for Garden Tools and the like This invention relates to depositories for garden tools and the like and more especially to weather proofed mobile depositories for garden tools and the like.
Receptacles for garden tools are of course well known but these generally suffer from the disadvantage that they are not mobile with the result that tools when required must either be carried or conveyed from a shed or other store to an area of for example a garden where work is to be undertaken and then collected up and returned to the shed or store.
The present invention sets out to provide a weather proofed depository within which inter alia garden tools can readily be stored when not in use and, more especially, a mobile depository in which stored tools can be transported within the depository to a location where work is to be carried out.
According to the present invention in one aspect there is provided a weather-proofed depository for garden tools and the like, the depository including a base, upstanding rear and side walls, an inclined front wall formed with an opening which defines a frame for receiving one or more doors or shutters which when opened or removed provide access to the depository interior and when closed or in place provide a weather-proofed seal to the depository interior, and means for supporting garden tools and the like on the internal walls of the depository.
The depository is preferably wheel mounted and includes a handle by which the depository can be propelled.
Propulsion may be effected simply by a user applying force to the depository through the handle or through an electrical motor driving one or more of the wheels of the depository.
The depository may include a closable lid to provide access to its interior from above. The base of the depository may comprise or include slidable trays or racks for supporting suitably shaped deposited items.
Additionally or alternatively, the trays or racks may be compartmentalised to receive and retain suitably dimensioned items.
The upstanding rear wall may be formed with an opening which defines a frame for receiving one or more doors or shutters to provide access to the depository interior. In this arrangement, the depository interior may be divided by an internal partition into two compartments, one accessed through the front door(s) or shutter(s) and the other accessed through the rear door(s) or shutter(s).
In another aspect, there is provided a mobile depository for garden tools and the like, the depository comprising a wheel-mounted container including a rearwardly inclined front wall upstanding from a base and terminating in a top which projects forwardly to a lesser extent than the base, one or more doors or shutters located within the inclined front wall to provide access to the container interior, and means for supporting garden tools selectively within the container interior.
The container top may include a lid to provide access from above to the container interior, sealing means being provided to weather-proof the container interior from the ambient.
The invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a weather proofed depository in accordance with the invention; Figures 2, 3 and 4 are respectively front side and plan views from above of the receptacle illustrated in Figure 1; Figure 5 is an exploded view of the interior walls of the receptacle illustrating means by which garden tools and the like are supported; and Figure 6 is a perspective view of an alternative weather proofed depository in accordance with the invention.
The garden tool depository illustrated in the drawings comprises a container having a base 1, an upstanding rear wall 2, side walls 3 and a front wall 4. The front wall 4 is formed with an opening which defines a frame 5 for a pair of hinge-mounted doors 6. In an alternative arrangement, the doors are of the folding flap type to define a platform when open or may comprise shutters. The open top of the container can be closed by a pivotable lid 7 and a handle 8 is positioned on the external face of the rear wall 2 to assist propulsion of the receptacle. The container is supported on ground engaging wheels 9. Seals are provided to protect the container interior against inclement weather when the doors 6 and lid 7 are closed.
Locks may be provided for the lid and doors.
As will be seen from the drawings, the depository is generally of wedge configuration with the doors 8 inclined rearwardly to provide ready access to the depository interior. The open top of the container is also inclined to provide ready access to the depository from above.
The lower part of the front wall 4 extends generally vertically from the base 1 and defines with the lower portions of the side and rear walls an open topped receptacle for smaller items. A slidable rack or tray 11 is provided below the base 1 to receive suitably shaped objects. Pivotable mounted or fold-down trays 12 are provided on the external face of the rear wall 2 to carry, for example, a kneeling mat or stool for use when weeding and/or a basket or bin.
As will be seen from Figure 5 of the drawings, various brackets, pegs, racks, elastic loops and the like are secured to the internal faces of the rear, side and front walls of the depository to receive and support a variety of garden tools and the like. Other tools may simply be positioned within the interior of the depository. For long-handled tools such as rakes, it is anticipated that ones that have telescopic or folding handles would be employed.
The mobile tool depository illustrated in Figure 6 is similar to that illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 and the same reference numerals have been used for corresponding integers. In Figure 6, however, the rear wall 2 is also formed with an opening which defines a frame for a pair of hinge-mounted doors 15. The doors may alternatively be of the folding flap type or may comprise shutters. As will be seen from Figure 6, the interior of the container is divided into two compartments by an internal partition 16, the front compartment being accessed through the doors 6 and the rear compartment being accessed through the doors 15.
The depository may be produced from a variety of suitable materials, these including wood and plastics.
It will be appreciated that the foregoing is merely exemplary of weather-proofed mobile depositories for garden tools and the like in accordance with this invention and that various modifications can readily be made thereto without departing from the true scope of the invention.
