Abstract

A multi-functional infant/child seat includes a main body 1, securing handles 3, an eccentric roller 7 and a stabilising arm 4, which are all adjustable. The seat can be safely used as a forward or rear facing car seat. The securing handles 3 enable the seat to be attached to any suitable vertical structure to provide a high or low chair. When used in conjunction with a wheeled frame the seat easily converts to a buggy.

Description

2360938 1 MULTI-FUNCTIONAL INFANT/CHILD SEAT This invention relates to an
Infant/Child Seat, which could be used to support an infant/child safely in varied and numerous situations.
Such seats are well known but are at present specifically designed as car seats, high chairs/low chairs, booster seats etc.
An object of this invention is to provide a seat which is multifunctional and yet safe for infants/children.
Accordingly this invention provides a infant/child seat, including supports suitable harnesses and handles which can be easily attached to any suitable chair/seat or suitable vertical surface (e.g. bed headboard) converting the aforementioned chair to a high chair or can be used freestanding on the floor as a low chair, it can also be used to transport the child, whilst in the seat, to a motor vehicle, where it can be used as a car seat (i.e. conventional forward facing and also rear facing when attached to the rear of the vehicles front seats). It can also convert to a buggy, if required by fitting to the wheeled fi-ame illustrated.
i c Preferably the infant/child seat is made of plastics material but it may instead be made of metal or wood or any combination of these materials.
2 A pre&rred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- FIGURE 1 shows a prospective view of the seat viewed from the side/rear; FIGURE 2 is a sectional side view showing the adjustments available; FIGURE 3 is a front view showing adjusting knobs and seat harness mountings and handle in relation to the main body; FIGURE 4 is a section showing the majority type adjusting knobs and fittings; FIGURE 5 is a section showing the eccentric roller adjusting knob and fittings; FIGURE 6 shows the scat when used on a chair as a highchair, FIGURE 7 shows the seat when used as a low chair, FIGURE 8 shows the seat when used as a forward facing car seat; FIGURE 9 shows the seat when used as a rear fitting rear facing car seat; FIGURE 10 shows the seat when attached to a bed headboard; FIGURE 11 shows the seat as a buggy when fitted to its wheeled frame; As shown in Figure 1 the seat comprises a main body 1 with the seating area 11 being moved forward from the rear extremities of the seat as shown in arrowed area W numbered 2, this is important as it moves the centre of gravity away from the rear of a chair when used as a high chair, therefore giving increased stability.
The securing handles 3 are fully adjustable as shown by arrows both vertically and in radius.
3 When htled to a chair, to be used as a high chair the adjusting knobs 5 are slackened, the seat is positioned as required and the securing handles fitted over the top rear of the chair. The eccentric roller 7 allows adjustment for height at the front of the seat and the lower stabilising arm 4 is adjusted as required, then knobs 5 are tightened.
The securing handles 3 and lower stabilising arm 4 are padded 9 to prevent damage to furniture etc.
The carrying handle 8 is adjustable and in the forward position (Figure 7, Figure 10) can be used to support a clip-on tray (not shown).
In Figure 1 the adjusting knobs 5 and fittings 10 are of the type shown in Figure 4, but if preferred the fitting 13 Figure 5 type could be used, reducing the number of knobs 5 from a total of seven to a total of four, these being all on one side of the seat.
In Figure 3 the slots 12 are for the built-in harness. The main body 1 and seating section 11 should be suitably padded and covered in fabric.

Claims (14)

  1. An infant/child seat with securing handles which could be used to safely support an infant/child in various situations.
  2. 2. A seat as claimed in Claim 1 where the securing handles are adjustable for height and rake.
  3. 3. A scat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used as a high chair.
  4. seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used as a low chair.
  5. seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used as a conventional forward facing iffint/child car seat.
  6. 6. A seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used as a rear facing rear fitting infant/child car seat.
  7. 7. A seat as claimed in Claiml and Claim 2 that can be used as a buggy when used with a wheeled frame.
  8. 8. A seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used to carry an infantlchild.
  9. 9. A seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be attached to any suitable vertical or near vertical structure.
  10. 10. A seat as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 that can be used as a rear facing rear fitting infant/child seat for use on public transport.
  11. 11. A seat as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 and Claim 10 when used on public transport will not affect the existing seating capacity.
  12. 12. A seat as claimed in any preceding claim which is easily attached or removed when required.
