Abstract

The invention relates to a derailleur for a bicycle comprising a helical drive shaft 4 along which an inner (10 figure 3) and outer 3 carrier wheel moves as the shaft rotates thereby moving the chain from one sprocket to another. The derailleur may be mounted to the frame by a moulting bracket 17. The shaft may be rotated by an electric motor 1, operated by a control button 15.

Description
Bicycle mechanism to move the chain from one sprocket to another This invention relates to a device for derailing the chain of a bicycle onto different sprockets by rotating a helical drive shaft clockwise or anti clockwise to move chain guide and carrier wheel to a different sprocket.
The rotating helical drive shaft can be rotated by an electrical motor and controlled with a switch or gears operated with a leaver and cable.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows an electric motor connected to the helical drive shaft, Figure 2 shows gears and a leaver and cable for means of rotating helical drive shaft Figure 3 shows outer moving wheel and inner wheel and stabilising bars Figure 4 shows section of outer wheel and exposed inner wheel with ball bearings and helical drive shaft 2.
Description
Figure 5 shows outer wheel with alternative chain guide In figure 1, shows a mechanism to move a bicycle chain from one sprocket to another by rotating 4, which is attached to a bicycle by 17, allowing 3, and 10 (fig 5) to traverse both ways on 4, using ball bearings 14 to locate on helical drive shaft 4 using stabilising bars 2 to locate onlO inner carrier wheel.
In figure 2, shows an alternative embodiment in which the helical drive shaft 4 can be rotated by means of rotating gears 8 and by moving leaver 9 by cable 13 In figure 3, shows stabiliser bars 2 inner carrier wheel 10 and outer moving carrier wheel 3 and ball bearings 14 In figure 4, shows helical drive 4, section of outer carrier wheel 3, ball bearings 14 In figure 5, shows inner carrier wheel 10 helical drive shaft 4 alternative chain location 11 3.

A derailing gear change mechanism with attachment for means of attaching to a bicycle, comprising of helical drive shaft that can be rotated,which allows a carrier wheel to move to alternative sprockets.</claim-text> <claim-text>2 A derailing gear change mechanism acording to claim 1, in which a carrier wheel compriseing of an inner and outer wheel are controlled by the rotation of a helical drive shaft.</claim-text> <claim-text>3 A derailing gear change mechanism acording to claim 1, in which the inner and outer carrier wheel has ball bearings for contact on a helical drive shaft.</claim-text> <claim-text>4 A derailing gear change mechanism acording to claim 1, in which the inner carrier wheel has stablising bars passing through its body.</claim-text>
