Abstract
240,309. Boulton & Paul, Ltd., and North, J. D. Oct. 27, 1924. Framework.-In a girder comprising three longitudinal booms 1 - - 3 with triangular sets of struts 6 at intervals the struts are secured to the booms bv means of sleeves 4 fitting tightly over the booms and provided with diametrically opposite flattened portions 5, 10. The ends of the struts are inserted in sockets 7, 8, connected together by a flat portion 9 and preferably formed from a piece of solid drawn tubing. The socket member is then secured to the boom bv a tubular rivet 13 passing through the flattened portions of the sleeve 4. A lug plate 11 for attaching bracing wires or rods is arranged between the socket member and the sleeve 4. Where two or more bolts or rivets are used a pad or clamping piece 19, Figs. 6 and 7, is provided. The sockets 7, 8 are grooved at 14 to provide an internal shoulder for the struts which are secured by pinning or by indenting both socket and strut with a sharp-pointed tool. At the ends the booms are provided with sleeves 15, Fig. 4, carrying, or formed with, lugs 16 for attaching the girder to another or to some other part of the structure, and secured to the booms by rivets 17. The booms and struts may be of solid drawn tubing or of sheet metal formed into tubes as described in Specifications 207,329 or 224,988.
