260,093. Beardmore & Co., Ltd., W., and Webster, T. H. Oct. 8, 1925. Loading-appliances.-A rammer, the head of which is fitted with a semicircular tray 1 to support the powder charge 5 and engage the projectile 2, has means for imparting a semi-rotation to the tray after ramming and before withdrawal, so that the charge is deposited in the gun chamber. The tray is rotated back to the receiving position by the same means at the end of withdrawal. In the arrangement shown, the rammer 17 is advanced in the casing 19 by an endless chain operated by an hydraulic motor 24 and the rotation of the tray is effected by an hydraulic ram 30 having a rack 16 engaging a pinion on a telescoping shaft 12, 11 connected with the tray 1 on the ramming head. Fig. 10 shows an alternative form of tray made in sections which rotate in opposite directions to deposit the charge.
