Abstract
284,131. Mond, A. L., (Metallbank und Metallurgische Ges. Akt.-Ges.). June 7, 1927. Alumina in a disintegrated form par- - ticularly suitable for use in obtaining aluminium by electrolysis in a fused crvolite bath, is obtained by disintegrating fused alumina, and rapidly cooling the disintegrated material by water or other 'liquid. A jet of fused alumina a running down an inclined surface between walls f which diminish radiation, is broken up by a jet of air or gas from a nozzle b or by rotating wheels or discs, preferably cooled, and is carried by a shower of water falling through a chamber c into a vessel e containing water or through which water flows. Evolved steam escapes through a stack g. The chamber c is 'preferably mounted so as to be removable.
