[Class 23.] Liquid mixture is supplied near the axis of the bowl of a centrifugal separator, the parts being arranged so that all flow between the liner discs passes outwardly, and the separated liquids pass to different outlets. The bowl B has a cylindrical wall 7 secured to the bottom plate 5 by the nut 8, and its neck is provided with two outlets 17, 40<11> through which the separated liquids are discharged after passing over the annular weirs 45, 41. The base 27 of a supplementary bowl SB, with perforations 29 in its wall, is arranged above the lower ends of the feed passages 25<1> in the stem 6. The nest of discs D is supported between the guard disc D<1> and the flange D<11>. Each disc D has an eye 31 and intermediate perforations 32 with guard lips 33, and is separated from the next disc by a spacer block 34. The guard disc D <1> has an eye 31, but no other perforation, and the flange D<11> has no eye. A bell 40 at the top of the bowl separates the paths of the light and heavy liquids. The liquid mixture is supplied from the pipe 101 which is connected to the pipe 98 through a packing gland 99 carried by the bracket 100 on the separator casing W. The mixture passes from the pipe 98 into the feed pipe of the separator through an adjustable valve 108 which can be held in a set position by a screw 113. The head 110 of the valve may have indicating graduations marked on it. From the feed pipe the mixture passes between the bases 5, 27 to the periphery of the bowl. After passing through the openings 29 and eye 31 of the guard disc D<1> the lighter separate moves upwards and outwards until it passes under the bell 40 to the outlet 40<11>. The heavy separate passes outside the bell to the outlet 17. The bowl can be modified as shown in Fig. 2 to act as a clarifier. A ring 61 which may be lightly perforated is used to block the annular space between the wall 7 and the edge of the bowl SB; the bell 40 and the weirs 41, 45 are removed, and a thimble T is inserted to close the outlet 17.
