[Class 100 (ii)] Inking- apparatus.-An elastic, e.g., rubber, relief printing forme is inked by direct contact with a roller having a regular screen pattern in intaglio on its surface, surplus ink being removed from the surface by a scraper. A similar but resilient roller may be used for inking rigid relief formes. The pattern may be formed directly on the surface of the roller or may be formed bya metal screen, e.g., of bronze, applied to the roller. For inking rubber formes, the roller may be of metal, but for inking metal formes it is preferably resilient, consisting of a pneumatic roller, a cylindrical shell supported from its shaft by spiral or leaf springs, or a soft rubber roller with a hard skin bearing the screen pattern.
