Abstract

534,202. Electric battery lamp. KERSHAW, A. Jan. 19, 1940, No. 1148. [Class 39 (ii)] In a torch with a two part container, one part 1 for the battery and the other 4 for the lamp and reflector, the two parts screwing together against the action of a spring 9 to bring the central contact of the lamp into contact with the carbon contact of the battery and so complete the circuit, the spring bears between a flange 7 on the reflector and an apertured washer 8 encircling the battery or bearing on its upper end. In a modification, which permits focussing, the lamp holder 13 is a member floating between a weak spring 9 and a strong spring 14. On screwing the two parts together, contact between lamp and battery is first made; thereafter, the apertured reflector is carried over the lamp, progressively, for focussing. The battery may be held in position in the casing by springs or friction washers. An additional means of closing the circuit may be provided in the form of a press-button at the end remote from the lens whereby the battery may be pushed as a whole into engagement with the lamp.
