544,474. Closures for gas bottles &c. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP SAVAL APPARATENFABRIEK. May 20, 1940, No. 8931. Convention date, June 29, 1939. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A frangible disc closure for pressure containers, for fluids, e.g., carbon dioxide for fire extinguishing, comprises an annular peripheral portion 6 held down on a seat in the outlet passage by a screwed sleeve 10, and a central cylindrical plug 5 to which the end 8 of a spindle 9 is secured. A pin 14 on the spindle projects into a helical slot in a sleeve 12 fitted in the sleeve 10, so that by turning a handle 21 the spindle is given a helical motion breaking the plug 5 away from its flange 6 to allow escape of fluid. The handle may have a free wheel connection with the spindle, allowing it to be set originally in a position indicating at a glance that it is full, the handle after operation being in a different position. The lower face of the plug may carry a recessed packing 26, Fig. 5, which can be pressed down against a seating 27 to close the outlet. The container may be charged through the outlet mouth 22. by screwing the sleeve 10 upwards allowing the spindle and closure to be raised without breakage.
