Abstract
541,700. Rotary cultivators. PETTMAN, A. V. June 10, 1940, Nos. 10116 and 10117. Convention dates, June 23, 1939 and Sept. 13, 1939. [Class 6 (i)] Each of a number of cutting units mounted on a rotating shaft 2, Figs. 1, 2, consists of radial arms 4 having integral or detachable cutters 5 with their sharp edges 5a moving in a vertical plane and rear detachable cross cutters 6 with diverging cutting edges 6a. The inner side of each cross cutter is formed with a shouldered groove adapted to engage a projection at the end of a radial arm. Secondary following cross cutters 11 of triangular form are detachably secured to the rear edges of the radial arms. The shaft 2 is carried by floating arms 16, Fig. 8, pivoting about a power shaft 20 which drives the shaft 2 by a endless chain. The maximum depth at which the cutters work is adjusted by chains 18. Cutters 22 are provided in advance of the lower ends of the arms 16.
