Abstract
696,485. Chucks. BAKER, R. J. Sept. 3, 1951 [June 1, 1950], No. 13770/50. Class 83 (iii). A collet chuck is operated by a nut 8 screwed on a collet C and secured to, or integral with, a ring 7 which is rotated either by bevel pinions 10 formed with recesses for a key, by a key with bevel teeth on its end or by a worm drive: In a modification, Fig. 2, the nut 8 is used only for initial adjustment and the chuck is operated by a yoke H which controls a camsleeve 12 acting on levers 17 engaging the face of the nut 8; the latter is splined in the ring 7 and may be urged forwardly by springs or by a yieldable rubber block. The removable sleeve 11 may alternatively be as shown in Fig. 4 and may have screw threads to take a slotted extractor nut 20. A stepped externallygripping collet, similar to the internallygripping collect of Fig. 4, is also described. In another modification, the sleeve 11 is extended forwardly to form a split mandrel which is expanded by a coned draw-rod connected to a member in screwed engagement with the ring 7..
