991,827. Thread reels. CRANE & PERCIVAL Ltd. March 19, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 12056/63. Headings B8M and B8P. A thread reel which may have pins and needles stored therein and is moulded from a plastics material-for example polystyrene -comprises a hub 1 formed integrally with end disc 2 and tubular portion 4, and an end disc 5 with a tubular portion 7, the ends of the tubular portions being longitudinally spaced from each other within the hub. When the reel is axially compressed portions 4 and 7 contact one another to strengthen the reel. Disc 5 has a flange 8 on to which, or a groove 9, Fig. 5 (not shown), into which, hub 1 fits. Adhesive-for example a mixture of acetone and toluene-may be used. Alternatively the two parts may be screw threaded together. The outer surface of the hub may be roughened by sanding or by the application of a solvent, or may have a plurality of longitudinal ribs. A colour code may be moulded integrally with or secured to one end of the reel.
