Abstract

Description
本出願は、参照により本明細書に組み込まれるものとする、2006年9月1日に出願された米国特許出願第11/469,564号の一部継続出願である。
本発明は、従来の切開、腹腔鏡、および内視鏡の外科用器具および方法、ならびに、ロボット支援外科手術に適用する。本発明はさらに、体重減少をもたらすために胃の中に植え込まれる装置に関する。
病的肥満は、重大な医学的症状である。実際に、病的肥満は、アメリカ合衆国ならびに他の国々でかなり広がってきており、その傾向は、マイナスの方向に向かっているようである。病的肥満に関連する合併症は、高血圧、糖尿病、冠状動脈疾患、発作、うっ血性心不全、複数の整形外科的な問題、および肺機能不全を含み、これらは著しい平均寿命の低下を伴う。このことを考慮に入れて、かつ、当業者であれば明らかに理解されるように、病的肥満に関連する金銭的および物理的コストは相当な額である。実際に、肥満に関連するコストは、アメリカ合衆国だけでも1000億ドルを超えると推定される。

植え込み可能なコイルの好ましい実施形態は、硫酸バリウムなどの放射線不透過性添加剤を含むHDPE射出成形プラスチックから作られた個々のリンクで構成されている。材料は、体内に植え込まれるように生体適合性でなければならない。材料は、以下を含む様々な材料から作られることができる。
1.ポリエーテルエーテルケトン(PEEK)
2.高密度ポリエチレン(HDPE)
3.ポリプロピレン(PP)
4.低密度ポリエチレン(LDPE)
5.ポリスルホン(PSU)
Claims (1)
- 中空体器官内に配置されるためのインプラントにおいて、
前記インプラントは、
a.部材であって、前記中空体に送達される非展開形状、および前記中空体内に植え込まれる展開形状、を有する、部材、
を含み、
b.前記部材は、互いに対して旋回可能に接続された複数のリンクを含み、前記インプラントは、前記部材に接続された可撓性の細長いテザーをさらに含み、前記テザーに張力をかけることで前記部材を前記展開形状に配置し、
c.前記部材は、前記中空体の二つの実質的に対向する表面をくっつけるために、前記中空体の内部に対して外側の力を及ぼすように、その展開形状において十分な剛性を有する、インプラント。
