Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、ウッド形ゴルフクラブ
に関する。
【０００２】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】従来この種のものとし
て特開平６−３３５５４０号公報の図１及び図２にはチ
タン又はチタン合金からなる殻状のソール及び側周面を
有する本体部材と、フェース部材と、クラウン部材を一
体に接合した中空のウッド形ゴルフクラブヘッドが開示
されている。このような中空なゴルフクラブヘッドにお
いては、容積を大きくできるためにスイートエリヤの拡
大を図ることができる。
【０００３】また、実開昭６０−１７７８６７号公報の
第２図には、ヘッドの後部に窪みを形成した窪み付きゴ
ルフクラブが開示されている。このゴルフクラブにおい
ては、従来滑らかに形成されていたヘッド本体の後部に
窪みを多数形成することによりゴルフクラブをスイング
した際に、空気抵抗を減少することができるというもの
である。さらに、特開平２−２４１４６９号公報の図１
には材料を切削して周面に小窪みを複数形成したウッド
形ゴルフクラブヘッドが開示されている。このウッド形
ゴルフクラブヘッドにおいては、前記小窪みにより、美
観を高めることができるというものである。
【０００４】ところで、ウッド形ゴルフクラブヘッド
（ヘッドと称する）においては、スイートエリヤの拡大
を図るために、ヘッドの重心とフェースとの距離を長く
することが知られている。
【０００５】しかしながら、従来のヘッドにおいてはシ
ョット時における強度上フェースを所定の厚みにしなけ
ればならず、フェースの厚みのために所定の重量が必要
であり、この結果ヘッドの形状を自由に形成できないと
いう問題があった。
【０００６】そこで、本発明は前記問題を解決してフェ
ースの薄肉化を図って、ヘッドの形状を自由に形成でき
るウッド形ゴルフクラブを提供することを目的とする。
【０００７】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明は、フェース部材
を有する複数の金属殻を一体に接合して前面にはフェー
スを、一側にはシャフト取付部を形成したヘッドにシャ
フトを取付けたウッド形ゴルフクラブにおいて、前記ヘ
ッド本体のフェース部材の後面に球面状、円錐状、角錐
状又は断面角形のような窪みを鍛造により複数形成し、
前記フェース部材の厚みが１ｍｍ乃至３．５ｍｍであ
り、前記窪みの深さが０．２ｍｍ乃至１．７ｍｍとする
ことにより、前記フェース部材の厚みを薄くでき軽量化
を図り、その分の重量を他の箇所に配分できるウッド形
ゴルフクラブである。
【０００８】また、本発明は前記後面に前記窪みが占め
る面積の割合が７０％以上であるウッド形ゴルフクラブ
である。
【０００９】
【発明の実施態様】以下、本発明の第１実施例を図１乃
至図４を参照して説明する。金属製のヘッド１は夫々殻
状の金属殻であるヘッド本体２とフェース部材３とクラ
ウン４を一体に接合して中空としたものである。これら
ヘッド本体２とフェース部材３とクラウン４は別々にチ
タン又はチタン合金、或いは機械構造用炭素鋼材等の鋼
材を鍛造により形成したものである。尚、ヘッド１の容
積を大きくするために材質としては比重の小さいチタン
又はチタン合金が好ましい。前記ヘッド本体４はソール
５と側周面６とを一体に有するものであり、さらにこの
ヘッド本体４には取付用パイプ７を介してシャフト８を
取付るためのシャフト取付部たる半割りされたー側ホー
ゼル９が形成されている。さらに、シャフト取付部たる
他方の半割りされた他側ホーゼル10が前記クラウン４に
一体に形成されている。
【００１０】前記フェース部材３は前面に打球面たるフ
ェース３Ａが形成されている。さらに複数の径の異なる
球面状の窪み11，12が前記フェース３の後面３Ｂに比較
的密に形成されている。前記窪み11，12は直径Ｘが３〜
８ｍｍ、好ましくは５〜６ｍｍで、深さＹが０．２〜
１．７ｍｍ、好ましくは０．７〜１．２ｍｍに形成され
ている。さらに隣接する窪み11，12の中心間距離Ｚは３
〜１０ｍｍ、好ましくは５〜７ｍｍであり、そして前記
後面３Ｂに前記窪み11，12が占める面積の割合は７０％
以上が好ましい。図５は前記窪み11，12の製造方法を説
明したものであり、鍛造により製作した後面３Ｂが平坦
なフェース部材３を鍛造装置の下型13に載置し、一方上
型14の下面には前記複数の窪み11，12を形成するための
半球状の突部15が形成されている。そして前記上型13を
平坦な後面３Ｂに押圧して前記窪み12を冷間鍛造により
複数同時に形成する。
【００１１】前記ヘッド本体２、フェース３、クラウン
４の相互の縁部を溶接等により接合し、前記半割りされ
たホーゼル９，10を接合すると共に取付用パイプ７を設
ける。このように中空なヘッド１を形成した後にフェー
ス３Ａに溝16を形成したり或いは表面に研磨等を施して
製品とする。尚、16は前記フェース３Ａに形成されたス
コアラインと称せられる溝である。またヘッド１の中空
部には必要に応じてウレタン等の発泡材等を充填しても
よい。
【００１２】以上のように、前記実施例ではフェース部
材３の後面３Ｂに複数の窪み11，12を鍛造により形成す
ることにより、フェース部材３の強度を向上し、このた
めにこのフェース３の厚みＡを１ｍｍ乃至３．５ｍｍ程
度に薄くでき、その薄くできた分の重量を例えば他のヘ
ッド１の部位、例えば前記側周面６の後部６Ａに配分し
てその厚みＢを大きくしヘッド１の重心Ｇとフェース３
Ａとの距離を大きくしてスイートエリヤの拡大を図るこ
とができる。
【００１３】以下の表１の引張試験成績表には前記窪み
11，12と同様なものを形成した平板（資料番号３，４）
と、窪みを形成しない平板（資料番号１，２）の引張試
験を示している。また、表１の曲げ試験成績表には前記
窪み11，12と同様なものを形成した平板（資料番号２）
と、窪みを形成しない平板（資料番号１）の曲げ試験を
示している。

【００１５】表１の引張試験において、窪みを形成した
板材（資料番号３，４）の引張強さ平均は６４２．９Ｎ
／ｍｍ２、窪みを形成しない板材（資料番号１，２）の
引張強さ平均は５１６．７Ｎ／ｍｍ２であり、窪みを形
成することにより、２４．４％の引張強さの向上を図る
ことができる。また、表１の曲げ試験においては、窪み
を形成した板材（資料番号２）の変形開始荷重は６３７
０Ｎ、窪みを形成しない板材（資料番号１）の変形開始
荷重は４２８８Ｎであり、４８．５％の向上を図ること
ができる。このような強度の向上は窪み５を鍛造により
形成する際に、均質かつ微細な組織を与える一方、鍛流
線を形成することにより材料のじん性と耐久性等を高め
ることに起因すると考えられる。
【００１６】さらに、前記窪み11，12を球面状としたの
で前記鍛流線の切断等が生じにくく、一層強度を向上で
きる。
【００１７】図６乃至図８、図９及び図１０、図１１及
び図１２は第２実施例乃至第４実施例を示しており、前
記第１実施例と同一部分には同一符号を付しその詳細な
説明を省略する。第２実施例ではヘッド21は、ヘッド21
のトップ21Ａを形成する殻状のヘッドトップ側部22と、
ヘッド21のヒール側21Ｂを形成する殻状のヘッドヒール
側部23と、殻状のフェース部材24からなる。前記ヘッド
ヒール側部23のホーゼル23Ａには取付用パイプ７を介し
てシャフト８が連結される。前記フェース部材24の後面
24Ａには径大な円錐状の窪み25と径小な円錐状の窪み26
が鍛造により形成されている。
【００１８】したがって、フェース部材24の後面24Ａに
窪み25，26を鍛造により形成したことにより、フェース
部材24の強度を向上でき、薄くすることができるので、
ヘッド21の重量分布を自由にすることができる。また前
記窪み25，26は異なる種類の径を有するものであるため
に、後面24Ａに前記窪み25，26を密に形成できる。
【００１９】第３実施例においては、フェース３の後面
３Ｂに異なる形状を有する角錐形状の窪み31，32が形成
されており、前記窪み31，32を密に形成できる。
【００２０】第４実施例においては、フェース３の後面
３Ｂに異なる形状を有する断面角型の窪み41，42が形成
されており、前記窪み41，42を密に形成できる。
【００２１】尚、本発明は前記実施例に限定されるもの
ではなく、種々の変形が可能である。

【発明の効果】本発明は、フェース部材を有する複数の
金属殻を一体に接合して前面にはフェースを、一側には
シャフト取付部を形成したヘッドにシャフトを取付けた
ウッド形ゴルフクラブにおいて、前記ヘッド本体のフェ
ース部材の後面に球面状、円錐状、角錐状又は断面角形
のような窪みを鍛造により複数形成し、前記フェース部
材の厚みが１ｍｍ乃至３．５ｍｍであり、前記窪みの深
さを０．２ｍｍ乃至１．７ｍｍとして浅い窪みを形成す
ることによりフェース部材を薄くできる。したがって、
フェース部材の薄肉化に伴いその分の重量を他の部位に
配分してスイートエリヤ等の拡大を図ったり自由な重量
配分ができるウッド形ゴルフクラブを提供できる。
【００２３】また本発明は前記後面に前記窪みが占める
面積の割合が７０％以上とすることにより、フェース部
材の薄肉化に伴いその分の重量を他の部位に配分してス
イートエリヤ等の拡大を図ったり自由な重量配分ができ
るウッド形ゴルフクラブを提供できる。

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 フェース部材を有する複数の金属殻を一
    体に接合して前面にはフェースを、一側にはシャフト取
    付部を形成したヘッドにシャフトを取付けたウッド形ゴ
    ルフクラブにおいて、前記ヘッドのフェース部材の後面
    に球面状、円錐状、角錐状又は断面角形のような窪みを
    鍛造により複数形成し、前記フェース部材の厚みが１ｍ
    ｍ乃至３．５ｍｍであり、前記窪みの深さが０．２ｍｍ
    乃至１．７ｍｍであることを特徴とするウッド形ゴルフ
    クラブ。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記後面に前記窪みが占める面積の割合
    が７０％以上であることを特徴とする請求項１記載のウ
    ッド形ゴルフクラブ。
